Giveaway?CLOSED//Book Review: The One-Day Way

As part of my search for great books for my New Year New Self Program I  was sent some info on The One-Day Way and thought it would tie in pretty well, so I accepted the opportunity to review it and WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group was kind enough to send me one for review AND one copy for giveaway!

This is the first of a group of diet and exercise books that I thought would be of interest to my readers. NOT every book is a great/good fit for every person. You have to find the plan that works for YOU and stick with it. So this month I am going to offer some options that I've been sent or come across or used, and you can determine what might be a good fit for YOU. And maybe you just need to get the book and let it stare at you like those eyes on top of money from the commercials for a few weeks til you're ready. Either way, read on!

The One-Day Way is different in that it focuses on you as a WHOLE-spiritually and physically! It produces lasting results by taking you back to basics. No more complicated weight-loss strategies. No more expensive diet plans that achieve only temporary results. Instead, you will lose weight and get fit with Hobbs’s simple, high-energy meal plans and her at-home program for cardio exercise and strength training. She will teach you how to change the way you think, which leads to new actions. Before you know it you will be strong, fit, and healthy. All it takes is doing things differently for twenty-four hours—and then repeating it.

Yesterday’s mistakes are gone so let them go. You can’t control tomorrow, so stop worrying about it. Today is your opportunity to lose weight, get strong, and look great. It won’t happen overnight, but you can build a new life by changing your actions immediately, and I’m here to show you how to make the changes that will create the new lifestyle you dream of: body, mind, and spirit.

Hobbs believes that NO diet plan can work IF you don’t start with small steps. This makes sense if you think about it. We all have BAD food habits (hence the need to diet/eat healthier). A repeated action becomes a habit in ONLY 3-4 days, BUT it can takes WEEKS to break a habit. So why would we think we can start a severe diet and it will work immediately and we won’t relapse? We have to TEACH ourselves to BREAK the habit, and then the new, healthy, habit will stick.

This is the KEY to Hobbs plan. Change one thing here, change another here. Make them a habit, then move on and make another change and another change and before you know, you’ve changed everything you need to, WITHOUT all the bounce back drama of yo-yo dieting.  If you have a slip up, you FORGIVE yourself, and LET IT GO. Do NOT say, oh, “I’ll make up for it tomorrow”- you will only be setting yourself up for failure. Instead, tomorrow you start ALL over- tomorrow is a NEW day, NOT based on yesterday’s problem. LET IT GO. She even has a bracelet you can order on her website to remind you to take it day by day- for some people this may be a good physical reminder/incentive!

The One-Day Way gives you everything you need to lose weight and get fit in body (food/fitness) , mind (faith) , and spirit (faith):
  • FAITH: Break free from past habits of making huge goals (that may be unattainable) and learn a realistic, life-changing way to measure success – even small successes are better than none. Take each step by itself and congratulate yourself for accomplishing the small goal. Then move on to another. Change the way you think – stop comparing yourself and your success(es) to others. You are YOU, an individual.
Believe that you WILL succeed and you will. If you wish to add  religious
faith to the mix, even better, but only FAITH IN YOURSELF AND YOUR
COMMITMENT is needed. Translate your dreams into goals, and your
             goals into lasting achievements
  • FITNESS-Get strong with thirty-one simple exercises, no fancy equipment required. You need to combine cardio and strength training, but not everyday, and you do get a rest day for recovery. Take it one day at a time and focus on achievements, not what you didn’t do.

  •  FOOD-Take advantage of ten ways to eat better while you lose weight  The plan includes one indulgence meal per week. So you can still enjoy food you really love, but in moderation! Learn to take control of food, not to let it control you. You eat between 1400-16—calories per day and eat 6 times a day- you do NOT deprive yourself, but keep your body going on healthy “fuel” not food addiction or bad food habits.
By focusing on food, faith, and fitness, Hobbs shows you not only how to lose weight, but how to build the new life you were designed to live. You The One-Day Way gives you all the tools for success, starting right now.

Overall, so far I think Hobbs approach to dieting makes the most sense- you have to break free from emotional and eating habits before you can begin eating healthy. Taking small steps IS fundamental and makes a whole lot of sense- it’s how we learn as children. So why not relearn to be healthy and fit? Make the commitment to yourself and check out this book!
