Synopsis: In Locked In (Muller's previous book from last year), San Francisco private eye Sharon McCone was shot in the head and suffered from locked-in syndrome: almost total paralysis but with an alert, conscious mind. Now, as Sharon struggles to regain control over her body, she wants everything to go back to normal, but realizes that it may not be possible to return to her old life. Meanwhile, Sharon's relationships are suffering. Her husband is impatient with her refusal to accept help and some of her colleagues doubt her abilities after the accident.

About the Author:  Marcia Muller, a Mystery Writers of America Grand Master, is the author of more than twenty novels and many short mystery stories. She has also established a brilliant reputation as an anthologist and critic of mystery fiction. In 1993 she was awarded the Private Eye Writers of America Life Achievement Award, and Wolf in the Shadows was nominated for the 1994 Edgar Allan Poe Award for Best Crime Novel and won the Anthony Boucher Award. She lives with her husband, mystery writer Bill Pronzini, in northern California.

Review: I have been a faithful reader of the Mccone series since they came out. When they came out I was living in the San Francisco area and it was great to read a mystery series with locales that I knew and loved, and others that we could figure out from description.s McCone is the quintesential detective, and who all girls want to be when they grow up!  This book picks up right where the last one left off, which is very satisfying for the faithful reader!

Muller continues her style of alternating back and forth with different characters and giving chapters from their perspectives. It gives you a complete picture of the events, but sometimes you wish she would stay with the character for 2 chapters before switching. All together though it's an entertaining and quick read, and up to Muller's standards!
