As you all know, we're anti-resolutions on this blog, and rather make small changes so this week I'm showcasing some books and products that can help you make the small changes in your life, that may lead to larger ones! ENJOY!

This book is truly about making a SMALL change in YOUR attitude that will result in HUGE payoffs, so it is VERY fitting and applicable to this weeks topic!

Synopsis: Twenty years ago, while riding in the back of a New York City taxicab, David J. Pollay narrowly escaped a life-threatening car crash. The driver who almost caused the major accident started yelling at David’s taxi driver, who remarkably just smiled, waved and wished the other driver well before he and David drove away. David asked how the cabbie could remain so calm. His reply spawned the defining principle of The Law of the Garbage Truck and left author, David J. Pollay awestruck.

His driver said: “Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment...And if you let them, they’ll dump it on you. So when someone wants to dump on you, don’t take it personally…move on.”

Pollay had an awakening-and he converted the lesson he learned that day into a life philosophy: By letting other people's “garbage”-their negativity-simply “pass by,” and not dumping garbage on others, you can become happier and more successful, both personally and professionally.

About the Author: David J. Pollay is a syndicated columnist, popular blogger, and an internationally sought-after speaker and seminar leader whose work has been featured on NPR, Sirius Satellite Radio, ABC television, and in Crain’s New York Business, BusinessWeek Small Biz magazine, and newspapers around the world. David holds a master’s degree of applied positive psychology (M.A.P.P.) from the University of Pennsylvania, and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Yale University.

Review: A lot of people let things fester and fester and the end results can be pretty bad- thing Hatfields and Mccoys! But what is instead you let GO of the negativity that came from something that was said to you, brushed it off and moved on. What else would you enjoy that day, because you were NOT focused on that item from 9am that morning? Pollay has an easy conversative writing style that makes you read this book in one sitting! AND he provides you with alot of thought provoking topics like the one above.

I really liked his section on luck- we may not be able to control luck but we can control what we do when we receive good luck- it's out actions afterwards that show the type of person we are. if you are GRAETEFUL for it and then you act rightly- ie pass it on, then you are living the Garbage Truck rules! Alot of his basics like this are based on the old 10 Golden rules, and are pretty good for tweens and tweens to really think and ponder on.

In fact, I DO recommend this book for a bible study or youth group class. I think if you use it in conjunction with scriptures you can see real case scenarios where the 'letting go, let God" phrase is shown pretty well! This is a great book to help you get your head in the right frame of mind when negativity, be it work place or out shopping, comes your way, and how to turn it around to benefit you!
