Book Review: How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf by Molly Harper

How to flirt with werewolf cover
Synopsis: Even in Grundy, Alaska, it’s unusual to find a naked guy with a bear trap clamped to his ankle on your porch. But when said guy turns into a wolf, recent southern transplant Mo Wenstein has no difficulty identifying the problem. Her surly neighbor Cooper Graham—who has been openly critical of Mo’s ability to adapt to life in Alaska—has trouble of his own. Werewolf trouble.

For Cooper, an Alpha in self-imposed exile from his dysfunctional pack, it’s love at first sniff when it comes to Mo. But Cooper has an even more pressing concern on his mind. Several people around Grundy have been the victims of wolf attacks, and since Cooper has no memory of what he gets up to while in werewolf form, he’s worried that he might be the violent canine in question.

If a wolf cries wolf, it makes sense to listen, yet Mo is convinced that Cooper is not the culprit. Except if he’s not responsible, then who is? And when a werewolf falls head over haunches in love with you, what are you supposed to do anyway? The rules of dating just got a whole lot more complicated. . . .

About the Author: Molly Harper worked for six years as a reporter and humor columnist for The Paducah Sun. Her reporting duties included covering courts, school board meetings, quilt shows, and once, the arrest of a Florida man who faked his suicide by shark attack and spent the next few months tossing pies at a local pizzeria. Molly lives in western Kentucky with her family.

Review:  As ya'll know I like Harper's fiction (having reviewed And One Last Thing last year), and the title of this book was enough to make me say YES PLEASE, before I even read the synopsis! I read this book in 2 days flat- it was hysterical! She had me at the intro when she said the book came to her when "I spent a week camping out in my in-laws front room (during KY icestorm), in front of the fireplace, with 2 kids under 5. These are the times that family therapy sessions are born." With a 'how it came to be' like that, you know you're gonna love the book!

Mo is from Mississippi and alot of what she says about being homesick after arriving in Alaska, and the things she wanted to get away from, I could totally relate to and made the book an even better read for me. This book is definitely chick-lit. And yeah, there's a few sex scenes (with it's title, you knew that, right?), but all handled well and with a sense of humor every time! Having spent enough time around those of the 'hippy/new age' persuasion, the takes on Mo's parents were accurate enough to make them hysterical. I think Harper truly found her muse for this book, I laughed the whole way through the book!

Harper kept the relationship between Mo and Cooper (the werewolf) accurate to real life romance, so it seemed plausible in a fiction sort of way. This new series is bound to be likened to True Blood-like Harris' books, the book has superb dialogue and the story steamrolls you along, guessing what will happen next. I was very happy to hear that Harper already has a sequel )The Art of Seducing a Naked Werewolf ), focusing on Cooper's sister, coming out in March! So if you want and even better read, pick up this book, and then the new one and sit in for your own ice storm/snow in! You'll be happy you did!

Sorry guys, this one is going to make the rounds of my friends before it might come back up for a Top Shelf Giveaway!
