As a lot of you know, I am a recent convert to Facebook. Honestly having a blog, you really need it today to stay current! Plus there is the advantage (disadvantage?) of old friends finding you. Thanks to other bloggers kindly posting of some how-tos and things to do on Facebook, I think I have a decent handle on how to use it. 


Had I NOT had those posts though, I would have been totally LOST! And that's where today's book comes in! There is NO official manual for Facebook. For us who like a how-to guide that doesn't require going webpage to webpage, but one we can read and follow the instructions online, we have been stymied by the fact that how-to guides are a dying breed. 

And that's where this book shines! Even with Facebook constantly changing, most of the book is pretty current (it was released in February). It teaches you how to unlock Facebook personal website creator, address book, and bustling community forum, for yourself! It's a huge time saving tour, guaranteed to help you get started the RIGHT way on Facebook !

Topics include:

• How to get started, get connected. Signing up is easy, but the real payoff comes when you tap into networks of coworkers, classmates, and friends. Pick and choose who gets to see what, and learn how to steer clear of the over 500 million people on Facebook you want to avoid (like ex boyfriends/girlfriends!).
• Add applications. Transform your Facebook account into an addictive, one-stop resource with thousands of mini-programs, ranging from silly to serious. It also teaches you about how to keep your privacy when it comes to apps, and how DELETE the ones you no longer need!
• Go professional. Facebook isn’t just for college kids anymore (seriously, they're all leaving it- too many parents and old folks on it now! LOL). Thousands of companies and businesspeople use the site for everything from project collaboration and advertising to filling (and finding) jobs. This book will teach you how to make YOUR page standout and be productive for you. A good tip- have a professional/business page AND a personal one. You don't want your friends putting silly comments on your professional wall- save that for clients' thanks for a job well done!
• Protect your privacy. You may feel too exposed with so much personal info on display. This book features an easy-to-follow, multi-pronged approach to staying safe on Facebook. If you set up your privacy controls in the beginning you will save yourself a huge amount of aggravation later down the line! 

While I knew most of what was in this book, I still found going over it very worthwhile, as there were some areas like deleting apps no longer needed off my page, and how to make the most out of business pages! I highly recommend this book if you are thinking about taking the leap into Facebook, and suggest it as a refresher for those of you already on Facebook!
