Book Review: Reflecting Him, Living for Jesus and Loving It by Carla McDouga

reflecting him coverI shared a guest post from Carla earlier today with you, and now his my review of her book, and my stop on her Blog Tour for it this week!

You may remember Carla from her previous guest post on this blog about Back to School, Pray!

Synopsis: DO YOU SEE JESUS IN YOUR DAILY ACTIVITIES OR SAVE HIM FOR EMERGENCIES? Reflecting Him helps you pulls back the veil so you can see how a true relationship with the Lord changes your life. As Jesus becomes a part of everything you do, you will soon be reflecting Him to those around you. In ten weeks, through Reflecting Him, you will:
  • Realize life is not about me, but all about Him.
  • See daily applications for lessons learned from scripture.
  • Understand how God is directing your life—often without you knowing it.
  • Learn the importance of prayer in your everyday activities.
  • Discover the joyful intimacy of a life filled with Jesus.
  • Realize how your personal relationship with Jesus changes when you make Him part of everything you do.
The study comes in small enough bites to digest, but deep enough content to stimulate change and growth. Carla McDougal’s refreshing authenticity and humorous style lifts you up and encourages you to dig deeper into the Word.

Review: This is supposed to be a 10 week course, and it is VERY thorough! Our church is getting reading to start the Alpha program, and I see aspects of it in this study series as well. If your church can't afford the Alpha program, this study guide would be a great alternative, especially for your women's study group! The complete series is:

reflecting him series
Pretty impressive, huh?

Week One is an introduction and introduces Carla, and asks you to reflect on why you taking the course, and has group discussion aids, so everyone can get to know one another. Week 2 starts the course in ernest. You get the topic and Carla's article, then you have daily readings and questions to answer, about how your life is reflected in the passages, and providing reflections for every day at the end of the lesson. So you have a lesson and then 7 days worth of study, per week.

Weeks 3-9 continue the same way. Week 10 reviews what has been learned every week and offers more group discussion ideas. As Carla said in her guest post today, the course is really about letting go of the past and moving on with a clear mind and belief in God. Carla uses examples from her life to illustrate different topics and show how it can be similar to you own life.

If you're not sure where your faith lies, and feel like some reflection would be good for you, I would suggest this book, as well as Carla's online posts (on both her blog and Reflective Life Ministries website). She is a great teacher, and like Joyce Meyers, really speaks to women and their lives!
