Tis the Season, to Host a Children's Tea???

Kiddo loves tea parties, and dressing up, so when the slew of Christmas themed tea parties hit my emails, I read them intently, looking for a great party to taker her to!

Imagine my sticker shock when I saw the following prices:
  • $15 children/18 adults Members, $25/30  non members
  • Adults $40, Children ages 5 - 12 $20, children under 4, $10.
  • $36 for children, $50 for adults
  • $24 per child.
  • Adults: $68.00 Child:$53.00
  • $49 for ages 11 and older, and $34 for children ages 4 -10 years, with children age 3 and younger free (on this one they get a small stuffed lion as well)
Now, understand 'tea' is an operative word. Most include a picture with Santa, hot chocolate and cookies for kids, and MAYBE one extra activity. Two include PB&J sandwiches (one) for kids and finger sandwiches (and tea) for adults.

I have yet to figure out how the adult pricing is so extreme, as a)adults don't take pix with Santa (not allowed), that's supposed to be included in kids pricing, and b)they get tea and desserts, but no MEAL.

So my conclusions were:
a) no go on taking Kiddo to one of these teas, as we can get a FREE Santa pix at Bass Pro and then take her out to a VERY nice restaurant nearby, and have enough $$ left over to buy her a book, and the bookstore across from the restaurant. Oh, and host a FREE tea party at home.

b) you want to make money over the holidays for your church or charity? HOST one of these teas! Seriously! With a rented/borrowed red suit (ya know what I mean), a good quality printer and a decent camera, pictures are a snap and CHEAP. Get everyone to donate sandwiches, cocoa and cookies, and volunteer their time, and you're looking at easily a 75% profit. You charge $15 and have 100 guests, that's over $1,000. PROFIT.
Uh huh, giving you some ideas isn't it?

AND making you wonder what those nice hotels/corporations doing the hosting are doing with that extra profit....

Just saying.........

  1. What a great idea to host as a fundraiser - think in the spring as a possibility too - big Easter bonnets! Yea!

I actually checked out Monte the Lion's in the New Orleans area as I have always wanted to attend and take a friend and her daughter - try $50 for adult and $36 for child.

Sorry, but that gets the three of us a nice hotel night away for vacay!
