Up now we have a wonderful cd from noted actress Emmy Rossum, Sentimental Journey, which is being released TODAY! It, is a collection of classic covers from the epic American Songbook.

I have liked Emmy ever since I saw The Songcatcher on cable, and had to hunt down the video! When Miss Grace was a baby, I played it alot as she LOVED it every time Emmy would sing! That movie showed what a great voice she has, so I was not surprised that she decided to go with a collection of standards for this cd! And boy has she grown up since that movie!

In fact, this is more than just a collection of songs to Emmy- each of the 12 songs representing a month in the year: "Each song needed to either lyrically or emotionally reflect the corresponding month," Emmy explains. "Some songs were obvious fits, like Summer Wind for June, and Pretty Paper for December. Others songs were less literal fits. I chose Nobody Knows You (When You're Down and Out) for September because, to me, the plaintive melody and lyric emotionally reflect the cold weather creeping in and the sense of melancholy we can get in the fall months."

Sentimental Journey Track Listing (writer):
  1. “Sentimental Journey” (Les Brown, Ben Homer, Arthur Green)
  2. “The Object Of My Affection” (Pinky Tomlin)
  3. “I’m Looking Over A Four Leaf Clover “(Mort Dixon, Harry M. Woods)
  4. “These Foolish Things (Remind Me Of You)” (Eric Maschwitz, Jack Strachey)
  5. “(I’ll Be With You) In Apple Blossom Time” (Albert Von Tilzer, Neville Fleeson)
  6. “Summer Wind” (Heinz Meier, Johnny Mercer)
  7. “Many Tears Ago” (Winfield Scott)
  8. “All I Do Is Dream Of You” (Nacio Herb Brown, Arthur Freed)
  9. “Nobody Knows You When You’re Down And Out” (Jimmy Cox)
  10. “Autumn Leaves” (Joseph Kosma, Jacques PrĂ©vert)
  11. “Things” (Bobby Darin)
  12. “Pretty Paper” (Willie Nelson)
Review: This is a great cd for background music during your day at home! You'll find yourself singing along and swaying with the music quite frequently!I think my favorite song was Pretty Paper. Course it's one that I heard A LOT of as a youngster, so I shouldn't have been surprised. Sentimental Journey was one of my dad's all time favorites, and she does an excellent cover version! Of course, any Johnny Mercer song is wonderful, and SUmemr Wind is also nicely done. All the songs have wonderful compositions and fit Emmy's voice wonderfully. She truly could have been a 1940's songstress! Having that type of range, and interest, in someone her age, is a very wonderful thing! This cd would be perfect for giving to Mom, Dad, the grandparents, or a friend for Valentine's Day, for a different type of 'I love you' present, but one that would be very appreciated!
