Shoe Garden and Other Shoe Stories cover

Shoe Garden and Other Shoe Stories

Synopsis:
Composed of four rhyming short stories, this illustrated children’s book looks at the souls within our soles--or, our shoes and the exciting places they can take us:
"SHOE GARDEN", How does your shoe garden grow? By two of course in colors of rainbows
"SHOE DREAMS", Each one tells a story, of its lifetime glory, each stand on its own, characters renown.
"WHEN SHOES CAN FLY", Life's journey is meant to walk on the earth, but if my shoes could fly, I would soar so high!
"BUTTERFLY SHOES", All who watch embrace the view of fluttering wings on butterfly shoes!

Review:
Miss Grace at first thought a book about shoes was silly, but the prose won her over and by the second story she was eagerly turning the pages! Butterfly Shoes was definitely her favorite! It had her asking me if we could add wings to her tennis shoes! Hmm,,,,may be a gift idea there! Could be a great tie in with a great pair of shoes! bella's birthday unicorn cover

Bella's Birthday Unicorn

Synopsis:
This is the first book in a chapter book series from Canterwood Crest author Jessica Burkhart! In the magical Crystal Kingdom, being eight years old is a big deal for a royal prince or princess—it’s the birthday where you get a unicorn, who becomes your friend and guardian for life. But it looks like Princess Bella’s birthday might not be so sweet. Her BFFs are fighting, her parents seem to be hiding something, and Bella is worried she won’t get matched with a unicorn of her very own. Will Bella’s eighth birthday be a sparkling success? Or will it end up being memorable for all the wrong reasons?

Review:
Let's see Miss Grace loves princesses, unicorns and all things royal. So yup, this one was a winner before we started reading it! As it is a chapter book and that is new to her, She reads for a bit, then I read, and then she picks up again. It's a fun story, and one that kept her enchanted, as she wondered if Bella would get a special unicorn on her birthday (course that led to NO, humans don't get REAL unicorns for their birthdays...SIGH). At almost 700 pages on the e-reader program, 144 on paperback,  it is on the long side, but it is great for reading out loud together and all little girls who love their ponies, royals and unicorns, will love this tale!

About the Author:
Jessica Burkhart (aka Jessica Ashley) is the author of the Unicorn Magic and Canterwood Crest series, which you can learn more about at CanterwoodCrest.com. She is a former equestrian who writes from her apartment in Brooklyn, New York. (It’s not the size of Crystal Castle, but Jess tries to decorate like a princess!) Jess’s aura would be hot pink and she lives glittery things. If she had a unicorn, it would be named Sparkle. Visit Jess at JessicaBurkhart.com.
