Clifford Ready-to-Read Game

Learning to read with Clifford and friends has never been more fun!

Scholastic Media, a division of Scholastic Inc., has released a NEW game cartridge this month- Clifford Ready-to-Read Game  for LeapFrog’s award-winning learning tablets, LeapPad1, LeapPad2 and LeapPad Ultra and learning video game systems, LeapsterGS and Leapster Explorer! You can also download the digital version, in the LeapFrog App Center for the devices too! This is the 8th title Scholastic and LeapFrog have partnered on for LeapFrog Learning library of content; since 2006.In fact, we have many of their previous titles for both Miss Grace's Leapster and LeapReader!

The Clifford Ready-to-Read Game is designed for kids, ages 3-5, and helps to teach and reinforces letter recognition, letter sounds, word-building and rhyming, all valuable ore-reading skills! While playing the game, kids learn pre-reading skills and earn new stories for their in-game library of Clifford books, while having lots of FUN! And as we all know- FUN is the key to keeping kids excited about playing educational games!

Clifford Ready-to-Read Game shot 1

The game is focused on Emily Elizabeth and Clifford as they explore their Birdwell Island, and looking for their friends and helping them along the way, by solving word and letter problems. As they solve the problems (over 250 of them!), they earn tickets that are traded in for prizes, including 10 stories for Clifford’s library that allow them to practice reading with the help of Emily Elizabeth.

Clifford Ready-to-Read Game shot 2

One of the first games has Emily and Clifford helping their neighbors clean out their garage. The player has to sort the items into the correct box, based on their starting letter. See above screen shot. When the object is clicked on, the neighbor says the name of the object, in case the child does not know it. This helps to reinforce phonetics.

Another great game involves Emily and Clifford, and an artist who likes to paint pictures of Clifford. The player The player writes two, three, or four letter words on the screen, from words they have learned earlier in the game, and then the artist draws a picture of Clifford with the word (see screenshot above). Again, phonetics, reading and spelling are all reinforced.

Another game has the player helping T-Bone to take rhyming pictures of different objects from around the island (see screenshot above). By moving the camera around the screen, the player can select the objects and earn tickets.

Emily Elizabeth's bedroom is where Clifford's library of books is at, and where the player can store any prizes and books, they have earned with their tickets throughout the game. A map of Birdwell Island is also here, for moving around the game, and there is a section to learn more about letters and sounds, if more assistance is needed, with letter tutorials from Emily Elizabeth. They focus on  beginning and ending consonant sounds, beginning and middle vowel sounds, as well as letter pronunciation. You pick which tutorial you want from an alphabet banner. When the player plays the tutorials, the game will automatically include them in the player's next adventures on the game/app! Talk about a responsive game- we SO love those to keep kids interested! When a child feels they already know something, they have a sense of pride, and want to keep on with the game!

And of course, the player can read along with Emily Elizabeth and Clifford, with the books they have earned, and placed in their library.

We were sent a review cartridge and I didn't realize it wasn't for Miss Grace's regular (aka old-fashioned) Leapster, until after I opened it, so Scholastic has kindly allowed me to give it away to one lucky BTHM reader!

Reminder, this cartridge is for the LeapPad or the Leaspert GS game system.
It will NOT work for the older Leapster games
