Product Review: Rescue! TrapStik Wasp Trap

With Summer right around the corner, the pesky bees, wasps, and yellow jackets will be buzzing.

If you haven't seen any yet, count yourself lucky! The long Winter has produced some beauties, as in :I can't believe how freakin LARGE that wasp was!".

So what do you do?

In the South, they're gonna be around, and there are countless ways of catching them, but when you have young kids, you want something that really WORKS!

RESCUE! is coming to our rescue once again!

As you know from my previous review, all of RESCUE!’s products  are eco- friendly, and are good for your family and the planet. Their newest product, TrapStik is for wasps (they also have a TrapStik for biting lies and one for regular flies), and paper wasps, carpenter bees and mud daubers. It hits shelves this month!

Rescue! TrapStik Wasp Trap in box

We were recently sent one of the new TrapStiks to try out in our yard. The timing couldn't be better!
We got it right before Miss Grace's birthday party!

I knew, having a candy shop area with lot's of sweet smells and bright colors, would attract many a wasp, so I placed the TrapStik above the area (see picture). You see The TrapStik for Wasps uses their new VisiLure technology (check out their webpage for a great video explaining how and why it works) to lure these stinging insects with appealing colors and a multi-dimensional pattern. Wasps are attracted by the colors and patterns on the TrapStik, then get stuck to the adhesive surface.

How well did it work?

Well the good/bad news is didn't actually catch any wasps, but we also weren't bothered by any!
So I took that as a success!

Things that I love about the trap:
  • You can use it from Spring thru Fall
  • It is odor and pesticide free
  • It is water resistant, which is great as you should place it under eaves and rafters (where the evil fellows like to build their nests)!
  • It provides a science lesson when you get it home: it has pictures of all the insects it works with, so you can have a nice long discussion with your budding scientist about all the species, their marking and how they sting and where they nest! (yes, not exactly my cup of tea, as I have allergy reaction to stings, but a parent has to do what a parent has to do. The Rescue! FAQ page has many of the answers you will need, FYI).
  • It doesn't scream- "look I'm a trap!" like ye old fly paper does
  • It is made in the USA!
  • It is super easy to use- just pull rip tab to open the package, then peel off the paper (like on a lint roller) and hang. JUST that easy!
  • You can find the traps at your local Home Depot and Lowe's retailers! We will definitely be putting a couple out by the pool and Miss Grace's wing set this year! No idea on pricing yet, but they should be pretty reasonable!

Things that I hate about the trap:
Nothing!

Comments

  1. I used one TrapStik and it did not kill any wasp. It did however help to chase them away. My guess is they know what the product does and don't want their babies near it. Lady bugs however.. fell victim.
