Released this past Fall in the US, Tyrrell's chips are as English as good manners and queueing,
but rather more delicious...

We say “potato”, the British say “potato” – that we all know. Two nations divided by a common language, and all that. Even when it comes to chips-: the delightful crunchy potato nibbles the British call “crisps”, and we like to call “chips” To the English,, “chips” are what one has with fish, what we call “French fries” and the French themselves call “frites”. Confused? Tyrrell's was, which is why on their US packs they went the extra proverbial mile, and put the American  “chips”. They hope you approve! And yes, if you think that's a spot of British humor, wait til you check out the bags!

Tyrrell’s English Chips are available in seven delicious flavors, which we recently got to taste test!

-Veg Chips-a colorful union of earthy beetroots, sweet carrots and that unsung hero of the Sunday roast: the parsnip – all made to sing with a pinch of sea salt. Miss Grace has taste tested so MANY Veggie Chips, as partof her GF diet, and she declared this 'da bomb!.

-Lightly Sea Salted -English chip unadorned but for a casual dusting of sea salt. The classic flavor, and totally scrumptious! You may find yourself eating the whole bag!

-Sea Salt & Cider Vinegar what could be more gladdening than the burly kick of cider vinegar paired with the subtle yet satisfying sting of sea salt? Perfect with a side of battered cod! I adore these chips for their tangy flavor that take me make to fish on newspaper correctly battered and fried!

-Mature Cheddar & Chive- tangy hint of mature cheddar in concert with the wonderfully oniony twang of that most snippable of herbs, the chive. These were declared the hands down favorite by everyone who tasted them! They were perfect crunched up on some left over chili from the 4th, and we all fought over the last of the bag!

-Sea Salt & Cracked Black Pepper-A crunchy celebration of a time-honored marriage: sea salt and that most cracking of spices – black pepper. If you love black pepper chips, you will quickly get addicted to this yummy flavor- my second fav!

-Worcestershire Sauce & Sundried Tomato -a spirited fusion of sweet yet tangy sundried tomatoes with England’s finest export – the universally admired Worcestershire sauce. These actually placed second in the overall taste test we conducted. Everyone lived the tang, that reminded them of a great BBQ chip.

-Sweet Chili & Red Pepper -nothing teases the taste buds quite like this subtly bracing coalition of sweet chili and juicy red pepper. You'll need more than a glass of iced tea for these! Bracing is not the word we used- we used 'hello, they talk BACK to you'! Being in Louisiana, we're used to some strongly spiced food, but during the taste test everybody was surprised at how much the combination of chili and cayenne in this product really zings when you eat them. The recommendation was a tall glass of milk at minimum!

As you can see these chips look homemade and that's because they essentially ARE!

Tyrrell's only uses potatoes from local farmers (their favorites being the rather aristocratic and delicious Lady Rosetta and Lady Claire- each bag lists what variety it is made from even!). They are then made the old fashioned way: by hand, in small batches! Sounds a bit 'fancy pants', but all they really do is take some top-notch potatoes, slice them up (skin on for proper flavor, and thick sliced for proper crunch), give them a bit of a sizzle in a big frying pan, then drop the chips into their 'Big Spinny Thing' (yes it's trademarked with that name). There they get a huge tumble that drives off any extra oil, and it makes the chips even crunchier! OOOO. Then the chips get a shake in one of their natural seasonings.(which are made from 'proper ingredients' (you know completely and utterly natural, with no silly nonsense whatsoever), then dried and then bagged, fresh to YOU.

You can truly TASTE the difference all this slow production takes. They taste like the chips grandma used to make you, but without all the fuss! You'll find yourself wanting to add them to everything you bake. And share them. Well ok, maybe not so much on that last one- you'll want the whole bag for yourself usually!

Tyrrell's loves to share too! You can win a free bag of chips in different ways:
- Review the chips on their website or Facebook page
- Write a funny caption to go along with one of the pictures on the chip bags
- Play their Facebook game (FYI, when they get to 5000 fans, there will be a BIG giveaway!)
- join The Connosoirs Club- 25 lucky members receive a case of chips EACH month!

You can buy the chips online or check out their store locator for a store near you!
Hint- for my Southerners- Piggly Wiggly has them!

I'm heading over this weekend to restock- since the chips are Gluten Free, Miss Grace has a new snack food, and we're all thrilled because we think they're the 'bees knees' too!
