Inspired by true events, Dolphin Tale 2 continues the story of the brave dolphin Winter, whose miraculous rescue and recovery—thanks to a groundbreaking prosthetic tail—made her a symbol of hope and perseverance to people around the world and inspired the 2011 family hit movie “Dolphin Tale.” This film reunites the entire main cast, led by Harry Connick Jr., Oscar winner Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd, Kris Kristofferson, and of course, the remarkable dolphinWinter as herself. Champion surfer Bethany Hamilton, who has been an example of courage, also appears in the film.
It has been several years since young Sawyer Nelson and the dedicated team at the Clearwater Marine Hospital, headed by Dr. Clay Haskett, rescued Winter. With the help of Dr. Cameron McCarthy, who developed a unique prosthetic tail for the injured dolphin, they were able to save her life. Yet their fight is not over. Winter’s surrogate mother, the very elderly dolphin Panama, has passed away, leaving Winter without the only pool mate she has ever known. However, the loss of Panama may have greater repercussions for Winter, who, according to USDA regulations, cannot be housed alone, as dolphins’ social behavior requires them to be paired with other dolphins. Time is running out to find a companion for her before the team at Clearwater loses their beloved Winter to another aquarium.

Miss Grace and I were able to check out a late night preview showing of Dolphin Tale2 last night! She was SO thrilled, as she adored the first movie! Course it was not without trauma!
We got to the first movie early , and after 15 minutes of waiting for the theatre to clear form the previous movie, the manager came and told us the hard drive for DT2 was broken and they could NOT show the movie at all for either special showing. Head slap, as other theatres were sold out online...Kid just about in tears. Luckily the very nice manager got a hold of the manager at the new tavern style theatre and they had some open tickets. AND there showing had 20 minutes to start..WHEW..off we flew!
That smiles says it all! She was SO happy to be able to see Winter again! The movie was "awesome and better than the first one" per Miss Grace. I gotta admit it was pretty dramatic and heart warming- read you better bring some kleenex, cause you are SO gonna need it at the end of the movie, and after the movie when they show the real life scenes (especially of the disabled kids and veterans with Winter). It was great to see ALL the cast back in the sequel- that is pretty rare to get everyone back! Seeing the kids grown and ready for college (!!!) was a bit of a shock, but it was nice to see the time evolution at the same time, so see HOW the first movie helped to build the rescue center, to allow them to continue their great efforts at rehab and release! I was pretty surprised by just how much info Miss Grace has learned about dolphins and what she was able to point out during the show (and after!). It was so great to be able to take your young child to a dramatic movie that is not only charming, and funny, but educational! It is a rare jewel and not to be missed!
If your kids are interested in everything dolphin (and they will be after watching this move), be sure to check out the Homeschool Movie Club Curriculum for Dolphin Tale2- the multi-stage curriculum has some really great and interesting facts, that all kids will enjoy!
Giveaway: One lucky BTHM reader will win this fun Dolphin Tale 2 gift pack- including the same shirt Miss Grace wore to special showing last night (note- the t-shirt is graduated in the coloring, so the bottom is a darker blue- very cool!
