Did you know September is National Baby SAFETY Month?

Sorta makes sense with all the child car seat posts, right?

But it's not just that!

We recently got to check out a great Moen product that not only helps with child safety, it helps with ELDER safety (if you have your parents living with you, you know sometimes those two can be the same thing!).

You may be surprised to learn that it's not just the elderly who have falls in the bathroom, children younger than five account for more than half of all slips and falls in the bathroom. That’s 43,000 annually or one accident every 12.5 minutes.

If you have kids, you're probably already remembering HOW many times your kids have slipped trying to get out of the tub, playing in the tub or falling off a too tall toilet! The latter many of us now have, as toilets are being engineered for the Baby Boom generation, and becoming taller. When Miss Grace was going through potty training, we had a stool for her, PLUS we had a potty chair that sat over the toilet, with grab bars, because she was so small, it was easier for her.

But if you don't want to go that route, Moen has you covered with one of their new grab bars!

We were sent their 8" Grab bar, that is made to go next to your toilet, and hold your toilet paper (it is for right side only- they don't have a left side yet, as most bathrooms are this way).! Dad was able to install it in about 15 minutes, with the additional Moen Secure Mount, that allows for the security installation, so the bar doesn't come off the wall when grabbed hard! Moen is also VERY helpful, with supplying a how to install video on the website as well, for those constructionally challenged! (and we have to repaint the shower wall, so Dad opted for no sanding and repainting, so excuse the look).

As you can see, for a young child the grab bar gives them something VERY sturdy to hang on to while getting on and off the toilet! For an elderly person it gives them more than just a hand grab, it allows them to put their arm, from elbow down on the bar, and to have a much better support to pull themselves up (which those with knee issues may need). Both Miss Grace and Mom have used the bar a lot in the past week and both love how sturdy it is! Plus it is super easy to put a new roll of toilet paper on! You have to love the easy things!

Moen has a full range of grab bars to meet your household's needs- from the one above, to bath /shower bars and wall bars. They have different finishes, so the bars will blend in with your bathroom decor too! So if you have young children in your house (and elders), you might want to give Moen a look, and make your bathroom one of the safest rooms in your house!
