Today I have a VERY special comic book for you and your kids!

Let's hear from Matt Miller (a former Air Force pilot, FYI), who created Sticker Swarm Media, to bring great comic books to kids, before I show you the comic book!

I'm a dad of 3, an entrepreneur, and have been working in and out of schools across this country for the last 7 years. In my business, I've come to realize that there's a lot of less-than-desirable content out there that kids are being exposed to each and every day. I have to agree, it's been hard trying to find suitable content for Miss Grace! I also see a disturbing trend where technology is taking the place of reading. As I was inspired to a lifetime of reading early in life, by reading comic books, that I picked up at the local dime store, I've started a comic book company to hopefully inspire many of today's kids to do the same.

Meet the first book in the series:

Marlin & Percy Comic Book edition #1 cover

The first series of comic books from Sticker Swarm Media, is about two apes that want to be superheroes and is called, Marlin and Percy. It's an exciting and wholesome series that focuses on teaching principles and is geared for all ages. In Marlin & Percy, readers will have the opportunity to follow the hijinks and hilarity of two primates who have decided to be heroes, only to find out that being a hero means a lot more than wearing a cool cape. Over the course of their adventures they’ve discovered that heroism isn’t always glamorous, can be as easy as being a friend, and requires putting others above yourself.

The first issue of Marlin & Percy finds the monkeys caught up in a plot by the evil Dr. Repugnant, who, along with his baboon associate, Guinea, is set on abducting our favorite heroes. After all their hero training, could this be the end of the line for Marlin and Percy? Is friendship enough to overcome the best laid plans of a big-time villain?  Will their first major adventure end up as their last?

Review:

Miss Grace and I read this book together and she delighted in it from page 1 to the last page! It was so great to read a comic book not only aimed at kids, but that has a wonderful message to it! She quickly got into the story line, and made up her own background for Percy and Marlin, and how they came to be able to talk! It was quite funny to hear her 'scientific' reasoning for that! Miss Grace is a reluctant reader, so having her wanting to read this comic book AND enjoying it all the way through! As soon as we finished, it, the first thing she asked was "When can I get the second book?" That's a sign that both the story line and art is not only interesting to kids, but a series they want to keep up with! Kudos to Tyler and Caleb!

About the Author:

Caleb Bollenbacher has been a storyteller since he was a child. As a child, his stories had lots of room for improvement, so he went to school to learn more. After graduating from Baylor University with a degree in English he moved to Boston, MA for the sake of adventure. He writes novels, comics, screenplays and, occasionally, grocery lists. Though he doesn’t have any pets, he can juggle.

About the Illustrator:

Tyler Ellis has always viewed art as more than a hobby. Adopting the approach of mixing work and play, he went to school to pursue art, and now holds several degrees from Baylor University. He also holds pencils, pens, and computers at various times as he pursues work as a freelance artist and illustrator. He is the proud owner of a cat, but would gladly trade it for a baboon if the opportunity arose.
