When you hear a movie is from Michael Landon Jr. (who is continuing in his father's steps),
there are 3 things you can count on:
1. it will be really good
2. you're probably gonna need tissues
3. it is PERFECT to enjoy with the whole family!

And this newly released movie on DVD definitely has those 3 ingredients!

About the series:

This DVD is based on the series, starring Erin Krakow, which is based oauthor Janette Oke's Canadian West series. It tells the story of Elizabeth Thatcher, a young teacher accustomed to high society life, who receives her first classroom post in 1910, in Coal Valley, a small coal mining town where life is simple, but often fraught with challenges. Lori Loughlin plays Abigail Stanton, a wife and mother whose husband, the foreman of the mine, along with a dozen other miners, has just been killed in an explosion. The newly widowed women find their faith is tested when they must go to work in the mines to keep a roof over their heads. Elizabeth charms most everyone in Coal Valley, except Constable Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing) who believes Thatcher’s wealthy father has doomed the lawman’s career by insisting he be assigned in town to protect the shipping magnate’s daughter. Living in a 19th century coal town, Elizabeth will have to learn the ways of the frontier if she wishes to thrive in the rural west on her own.

Review:

Miss Grace and I watched this series on the Hallmark Channel and I was very happy to hear they had put the episodes out on DVDs, as they are quality shows. And quality TV is hard to come by these days, especially that which is suitable for family night! Even though the setting is 1910, many of the issues faced by Elizabeth are ones teens today face as well- parental expectations, breaking free of the known, perseverance for a goal, The dvds are great as the story line is continued a bit longer, allowing for more family discussion after watching it!  We love and we're not alone- fans, aka 'Hearties' have even started an online cookbook to go along with the series!

This DVD is episode 9 and 10 from the TV series. The other DVDs in the series are Pilot, Lost and Found (episodes 1/2),  A Telling Silence (episodes 3/4) , the Dance (episode 5/6). and Second Chances (episodes 7/8). Once you start watching the series, you'll be hooked too! The video collction would be a great Christmas gift for fans of the show too!
