Many kids suffer from bullying,
but for those starting school for the first time,
or starting at a new school, the fear of it can be very traumatic.

Especially if the child knows they are different from other kids in any way.
This new book helps kids overcome those fears and bullying!

The Bully and The Shrimp cover

Synopsis:
When small-for-his-age Noah Shrimpton moves to a new school, the class bully starts picking on him. Noah has no friends to support him and is afraid to tell anyone. He starts to use his journal to express himself, doodling all sorts of outlandish scenarios where he beats the bully (sometimes involving superheroes or giants!). Follow Noah as he learns to make friends and gain the confidence to stand up to the bully in this contemporary tale. Developed in conjunction with school teachers and child development experts, this picture book deals with the current issue of bullying in a sensitive way and is perfect for any school-aged child and their parents.

Review:
This is an adorable book with eye catching illustrations from Kim, that will grab your child and have them reading and flipping pages to see what happens to young Noah. Having friends that help him stand up to his bully really helps Noah, and helps kids to understand that they ALL need to take a stand against bullying, even if it's not against them! Miss Grace and I had a great discussion about bullying, as her class has 2 bullies, and has for 5 years (!!!). The kids get under control and then lapse, and the kids have to go back into the routine again of telling teachers and parents. SIGH.

There is also a parent guide included in the back, along with a 'what if you are being bullied' section for kids. This is a great way to get your kids talking about a very important topic! It would also be a great book to share with your child's teacher, for class reading/discussion. We highly recommend it for all families, and it makes a great Christmas present!
