This year I was determined to be READY for Summer!

Miss Grace was given 2 camps to attend and she's picked a Performing Arts and a Fire/Safety Camp. Which means she'll be missing VBS, as our church isn't doing one, and the one she also likes t attend with her friends is being held the same time as one of the other camps. And that equas a need for some serious crafting time at home.

As she received her first sewing machine for her birthday, we'll be working on learning to sew along with an hour of course work to keep her form Summer 'brain drain', so I wanted to get her a pack of 'fun things' so when she says 'I'm Bored', she just needs to go to the bag and grab something!

I was able to grab items from Miss Grace's school book fair, some review items, and otehr items I snagegd on clearance, making for a relatively inexpensive bag!

She has a Mini Pom Pom Pet crafting book and all needed products for them, a wooden birds kit to make a mobile for her room, a Hello Kitty Beach towel and sunscreen set, a new pair of TEEN swim goggles (when did her head get SO big?), a new Contigo Autospout Squeeze Kids Water Bottle (no straw to loose!) , 3 new reading books and not pictured above, a Doodle Lit book and pen set!

Generally speaking that ought to cover the first month, and I can replenish the bag with some additional craft kits left over from her birthday, that she hasn't gotten to!

Here's a bit more about the books I included:

Doodle Lit- With Doodle Lit, artists can use their imaginations to complement favorites such as Pride and Prejudice, Romeo and Juliet, Jane Eyre, Alice in Wonderland, and many more. Sprinkled throughout are also designs with perforated edges, perfect for popping out and crafting! Illustrated in the same playful style as our acclaimed BabyLit board book series.
This is such a FUN book that also educates- like explaining what coats of arms, while getting your kids to think (what would they take on a raft if they took off like Huck Finn? Making a new hair do for Anna Karenina, Givign Dracula a new cape,  or coming up with tattoo designs Queequeg’s arms really allow older kids to branch out and let their creativity come out. The pull outs are great for gift giving too!

dragon breath 10 coverDragonbreath #10: Knight-napped! Miss Grace hasn't read any of The Drahonbreath Series and I'm hoping that this one with it's Knightly' theme will entrance her, due to it's similiarity to the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series that she loves,  and make her want to read the rest of the books over the Summer, now that she is 'into' reading! Whew!

In this edition- Danny Dragonbreath has a problem. His super-annoying cousin Spencer gets kidnapped by knights, what to do? First, he thinks about how nice and quiet Thanksgiving would be without Spencer. Then, of course, Danny goes off to rescue him, with his cohorts Wendell and Christiana by his side. Their action-packed mission involves a dirty dungeon, a very squelchy moat, a big surprise for Christiana . . . and jousting galore! The hilarious Dragonbreath series matches up classic middle grade humor with comic panels. It's guaranteed to make you laugh until smoke comes out of your nose! The book is liberally peppered with illustrations, to keep your kids reading and flipping pages! This is a fun series for boys and girls!

curse of the missing dodo cover
curse of the missing dodo sample pageThe Case of the Cursed Dodo- the Endanged Files- Book 1 in this new series.  If you're looking for trouble, you've found it. The name's Jake G. Panda, and trouble seems to follow me wherever I go. I work in the protection racket at a flophouse for endangered critters called the Last Resort. I'm the hotel snoop. The resident fuzz. It's my job to keep these guests safe and outta harm's way. This is the first of my many misadventures. A wild and woolly mystery involving a lost suitcase, a green bird, and a bunch of double-crossing animals. I'm calling it The Case of the Cursed Dodo.

Miss Grace is a huge animal lover, so I know she will love this fun new series that mixes detective noir with a globe-trotting adventure, and adds quite a bit of education in the mix! Always a good thing (if you sensed a theme in the books I picked, you are right! LOL). there is a lot of humor and snarkiness, to keep your kid laughing and turning the pages and both of you will enjoy this one!.

and finally:
The Princess in Black- Who says princesses don’t wear black? When trouble raises its blue monster head, Princess Magnolia ditches her flouncy dresses and becomes the Princess in Black! Miss Grace has demoaned their not being many female superheroes, so I know she will ADORE this book, with its fun premise and punchy heroine! Even though this is the 'youngest' of the books, by reading level, which makes it perfect for the to start the Summer with, and she can use it to graduate to the other books!

Stopping monsters is no job for dainty Princess Magnolia. But luckily Princess Magnolia has a secret —she’s also the Princess in Black, and stopping monsters is the perfect job for her! Can the princess sneak away, transform into her alter ego, and defeat the monster before the nosy duchess discovers her secret? From award-winning writing team of Shannon and Dean Hale and illustrator LeUyen Pham, here is the first in a humorous and action-packed chapter book series for young readers who like their princesses not only prim and perfect, but also dressed in black.
