Summer....

Time of the heat wave.

Right now our central a/c is out (I know, we are DYING) and cooking ANYTHING in the oven is just NOT gonna happen!

But you can only 'cool meal' it with salads and sandwiches so long before you want something with substance!

Thanks to Rustic Crust we found a quick and EASY solution for a family dinner!

rustic crust flatbread crusts

Rustic Crust products contain only the highest quality, all natural produce, herbs and whole grains – simple and healthy. Add in their secret ingredient and you have the type of convenience foods you WANT to serve your family!

The secret ingredient in Rustic Crust?
A special bread culture, unique to Rustic Crust, that gives Rustic Crust its Old World authenticity. They only use traditional, Old World baking methods, forming each crust by hand (!!!), and allowing the dough to rise slowly, double proofing it for maximum flavor, JUST like you would when you make from scratch pizza at home! Besides giving them an unique flavor, the crusts have a very distinctive look- the unbleached flour they use provides a slightly richer color, while hand forming each crust produces the distinctive, rustic texture also found in artisan breads. They even have a gluten-free crust!

Rustic Crust helps make cooking fun again.
In the same amount of time that it takes to order and pick up a pizza, or have one delivered, you can make and enjoy one or more, delectable Rustic Crust pizzas fresh, the way YOU want it.!

We decided to make it a family 'make your own pizza' night, to check out Rustic Crust!

Yup- they even have their own Pizza Sauce! The Basil Tomato sauce comes in 3 packs per package. We found that one pack was perfect for one crust. But then we don't like a huge amount of sasuce on our pizzas, you might want to get into a second pack! The sauce tastes just like you cooked it all day on the stove too! It compliments the crusts very nicely!

The pizza crusts come in 9 varities, sure to meet everyone's taste in your family:
Cheesy Herb, Classic Sourdough, Italian Herb, Tuscan Siz Grain, Ultimate Whole Grain, Organic PPriginale, Organic Great Grain, Crispy Thin Crust and Gluten Free Napoli Herb

We started off with Cheesy Herb and Crispy Italian herb, and saved the  ***
for another day to use dipping sticks for Artichoke Cheese Dip!

We gathered up all the ingredients above and put them in bowls, so everybody could make their own concoction (we each took half a crust).

As you can see Miss Grace had the most fun! She made up a marinara, pepperoni,  mushroom, olive oil, 3 cheese pizza on the thin crust for her and Papa. Then she helped me make a alfredo sauce Hawaiian pizza on the cheesy crust with Canadian bacon, pineapple, black olives, sweet red onions and 2 types of cheese!

Then off to our experiment- grilling pizza!

First off, I have NEVER actually cooked on the grill! Dad gave me the simplest of instruction before he left for a meeting, leaving me to follow the instructions from Rustic (see video below) for cooking a pizza on the grill! Heating up the grill went well, so I added the 2 pizzas, closed the door and kept an eye on the time!

As you can see from the before and after, the Hawaiian pizza did really well, it's thicker crust got crunchy golden on the bottom and the cheese melted perfectly.

It was beyond yummy too!

The thin crust unfortunately got a little too hot in the back and got a bit over crunchy on the end!

But as you can see, it didn't bother Miss Grace, nor make any difference on the taste!

She loved the thinner flatbread style pizza and agreed that grilling pizza was a pretty cool idea!

The two pizza crusts were just the right size for the 4 of us. We didn't serve anything else with it, but if we had served a salad, we could have gotten an extra serving or two from them! Though Miss Grace did bemoan the fact there was NO leftovers for lunch the next day! Lesson learned, make an extra pizza next time! LOL

Rustic Crusts are available one through Rustic Crusts e-store (not all varities availble yet) and at local retailers in New Hampshire. Once you try them, you may never want to make pizza crust again!
