Synopsis:

For over 2,000 years, man has been searching for the final resting place of Noah's Ark.  Though there have been many attempts, few have been able to fully explore the one place specifically noted in the Bible: Mount Ararat.  Located in Eastern Turkey, Agri Dagh or "The Painful Mountain" is the tallest mountain in the region and lies in the very center of a centuries old, geo-politically unstable hot spot.  With constant threats of deadly rock slides, hidden crevasses, and glacial ice falls, the Kurdish Rebel held mountain poses great risk to any explorer, let alone those performing a thorough scientific investigation.

Join director/producer Brent Baum and the FINDING NOAH film crew as they follow an expedition of intrepid explorers on a perilous trek up to Mt. Ararat's desolate summit.  There, using state of the art technology and real-time satellite imagery, this team of archeologists, scientists and professional mountaineers will begin a grid work of exploration unlike any before, hoping to finally resolve the age-old question:  did Noah and his Ark actually exist?

Shot in never-before filmed locations in the harshest of conditions, this unprecedented feature-length documentary shows just how far men are willing to go to discover the truth.  Narrated by Academy Award nominee Gary Sinise, FINDING NOAH is more than a quest for answers, it is a testament of the human spirit, where belief and the need for exploration transcend risk and limitation.

Review:

This is a super movie, showcasing how years of research lead the team back up on Mount Ararat over and over, in their search to find the ark. Their goal being is you can prove one of the foundation episodes in the bible was real, then you can no longer dismiss the bible (and the Christian faith) as based on myth.

Did you know that of all the peoples on the Earth, 95% have some sort of crucial event that ended up in world destruction, such as the great flood, that wiped the Earth clean? 88 % tell of one family being saved, 70% say survivors survived by being on a large boat, while 67% say the earth's animals were also saved. 35% say that it was a bird sent out that found land, and 9% say only 8 people were saved to re-habit the Earth. Pretty astounding when you add that the geological evidence points to a major amount of water covering the Earth 5,000 years ago.  So there is a preponderance toward belief that the Ark could exist

The filmmakers present a very interesting timeline at the beginning of the movie, showing how the Ark has been spotted over and over, and then 'lost' in between sightings. It was wonderful to have the timeline interspersed with info from scientists showing how unstable the volcanic glacier is, and how it shifts and moves constantly, which has not only moved the Ark down from where it possibly landed, but to bury it over the centuries. But what the timeline showed was how God allowed the Ark to be spotted and scene, when the world was in crisis, and the belief that it could be found was needed.

In 2011 the expedition used new 3D imaging on the mountain, in conjunction with spy satellite photos and found an anomaly, that could be the ark, but their time ran out. The team went back in 2012 with a better plan and got more readings, and thought they had found the right spot. But after drilling, they didn't find it. This films shows their 2013 trek back, where they were able to feel pretty certain they had the right location. With newer better technology, they found what could be the anomaly, but and it tested for resin, but not for wood. they use great music from

The film has interesting perspectives, with the use of head based go-Pro type cameras, so you can feel what it is like to be moving up the mountain, and down into crevices that appear to be hand carved It gives you a feeling of being involved in the expedition, and experiencing their highs and lows, and how they felt their expedition was being guided by God. As the filmmakers are well versed in the industry, it is no surprise that the film shows like a big budget picture! Using songs from For King & Country, whose lyrics, really echo the story and the adventure, only heightens the experience.

While the participants were all disappointed as their time ran out, and their request for a new trek in 2014 was denied due to political instability in the area, all the members agreed, it was more about the journey, than the actual finding of the ark. They left feeling the God would expose the ark when it was time, but that they had found themselves closer to him, via their journey to find it. And isn't that what we all hope for? To be closer, to know him better?

Don't miss this movie- it is so wonderful to go see as a family, and then talk about how God leads us, and how we need to accept the journey as part of his plan for us!
