According to a recent survey of more than 800 consumers nationwide by the movie experts at Redbox, about half of us will be getting into the Halloween spirit with a flick, and a whopping 92% of Americans prefer to watch a scary movie at home (snuggled with their sweetie), while 73% want the lights off too! Turns out, more than half will NOT watch a scary movie alone!

Consequences of watching a scary movie? 50%) are spooked by strange noises after watching a scary movie, while 31% have turned off a scary movie because they were too frightened.

The most fearless among us... those between the ages of 18 – 44. And it's pretty equal on who likes them too- 56% of female respondents like scary movies, while 61% of male respondents like scary movies.

Surprisingly, people in the Northeast like scary movies the best at  61%, with the Midwest a close 2nd at  60%. The South and the West weren't far behind though!

And it's obvious the DVD has had it's affect on the younger generation-
for people 18-34,  17% believe The Exorcist is the best scary movie of all time (I'm with them- I still get freaked out after watching it)!

22% say that Freddy Krueger is the scary movie villain that frightens them the most (he also won that title for all respondents, with Hannibal Lector a close second!).

Which I guess just goes to show you that old school still rules when it comes to getting scared!

So rethink your Halloween night, and be sure to include Redbox in your Halloween planning!
