The Girls in the Garden cover

Synopsis:

Imagine that you live on a picturesque communal garden square, an oasis in urban London where your children run free, in and out of other people’s houses. You’ve known your neighbors for years and you trust them. Implicitly. You think your children are safe. But are they really?

On a midsummer night, as a festive neighborhood party is taking place, preteen Pip discovers her thirteen-year-old sister Grace lying unconscious and bloody in a hidden corner of a lush rose garden. What really happened to her? And who is responsible?

Dark secrets, a devastating mystery, and the games both children and adults play all swirl together in this gripping novel, packed with utterly believable characters and page-turning suspense. Fans of Liane Moriarty and Jojo Moyes will be captivated by The Girls in the Garden, the next unforgettable novel by New York Times bestselling author Lisa Jewell.

Review:

Once again Lisa gives us a real page turner, that will leave you reading late into the night-I read it in 2 sittings, only because I couldn't keep my eyes open! the reader can pretty astutely see what happened to Grace, but it is how Lisa unwinds the story, little by descriptive piece, by character development, that keeps you so hooked, you can't put the book down, even though you know. And then suddenly the end is upon you and you realize you had it wrong. You got so caught up in the details and secrets, that you lost sight of the forest for the proverbial trees, and like any great author Lisa seems to suddenly pulls a twist that makes you grown and say "I should have seen that!", And then you flip back a few chapters and realize what you missed and say AHA. And you run to the phone to tell your friends all about this great book! This will definitely be one of Summer hits, so be sure to pick up this wonderfully skilled look at families, dysfunctional teens, and deceit!
