But lucky YOU, I have a DVD copy to give to one lucky reader!

Synopsis:

SNOWTIME! is a PG romp through childhood full of heart and humor. To amuse themselves during the winter school break, the kids in a small village decide to have a massive snowball fight. Luke and Sophie, both 11 years old, become the leaders of the opposing sides. Sophie and her cohorts defend an elaborate snow fort against the assault of Luke’s horde. Whichever side occupies the fort at the end of the winter break, wins.

But what starts out as pure youthful fun and enthusiasm deteriorates into a more serious conflict, where children learn valuable life lessons on friendship, the importance of unity, and the emotional consequences of vicious rivalry. The film’s underlying message – neither side wins in war – is as relevant today as ever.  Based on the acclaimed live-action film classic La Guerre des Tuques (The Dog Who Stopped the War), SNOWTIME! is a captivating cinematic adventure about hope and friendship.

Here's what Miss Grace had to say about the movie:

Miss Grace wasn't too sure about this movie when we started watching it, but that is probably as she has never really been in a snow fight, nor had true snow days. But once the action started, I literally couldn't get her away from the screen! All the kids in the movie are typical of any group of friends and the snow castle was AWESOME, and showed how ingenious kids can be when they want to be! There was also shades of honor to other movies- Lucy, Sophia's little sister is a dead ringer for Merida's little sister-both in action and looks, LOL. With their being only 3 girls, it's no wonder they 'fangirl' one another as the battle weighs on!

At it's hearts this is a typical kids movie, full of mischievous fun and memories being made, BUT, as the battle draws to its close, there is a serious incident that forces the group to evaluate the consequences of their actions. For younger kids, this is akin to Mufasa being killed in the Lion King, so take this warning, as far as younger children watching the movie. Miss Grace and I did have a short discussion about it, and as she has already had the experience, she was ok with it, but it was a bit shocking, adding a very serious dimension to the movie. Of course, some would say that was the whole point, as far as teaching war is bad. But I think if you treat it more as consequences happen, and they can be much more serious than you think then the movie is a good starting point for some great family discussions,

Miss Grace wanted me to add there's some great music to! I had to laugh when I realized she was watching and humming along to the music and running dance patterns on her leg while watching the film. A true sign, that the music is FUN! This is a great new family film, especially if you are still snowed in, and we highly recommend it!
