As you can see, this book is a great reference for homeschoolers, as it gives you different types of writing, from the early Roman lettering, to today's elegant script. By giving 5 different forms of calligraphy to learn, kids can learn how writing was done in Roman, Medieval, Renaissance, America's early days and then modern script. By showing the different alphabets, kids can learn alongside the easy instructions.

As you can see the instructions are easy to follow. The instructions are made for actual calligraphy pens, with ink and nib points, But there are modern type pens that don't require the use of nibs, that would be better for younger kids to use, while older kids would probably enjoy using the nib and ink system. Either way, the simple stroke diagrams and pen slants, can easily help kids to keep the pen in the right direction, to achieve the style they are trying to.

I know when I took a calligraphy mini-class in sixth grade, it greatly helped my cursive writing, as my eye automatically kept my letters the same height, and words on an invisible line. I also found that I incorporated some of the Chancery forms into my cursive, making for a more modern looking cursive, that is uniquely my own, yet MUCH neater than my cursive was! And I found that once learned, the basics of calligraphy DO stay with you. Even today, if I need to do a formal invitation or certificate, I will use the Old Roman or Elegant Script calligraphy fonts with ease, and without thinking most of the time!

This is a simple, easy and complete course in calligraphy, that will give you an at home course, on your time, and when you're free to learn. It's well worth the cost for the instruction and reference!

This book makes a great Valentine's Day gift for kids and adults alike!Simply add a calligraphy pen set, some paper and this book, and you have a gift that keeps on giving
