Yup, only one week til Thanksgiving....
What WILL you do with the bored kids?
Cause we all know after 2 days, they're gonna be BORED!

We were sent the Chocolate Kit to try out, and as Miss Grace is studying Mayan/Incan civilizations starting later this month, it was a great time to check out the kit!
As you can see above, the kit comes with Confections Sugar, Cocoa Butter, Chocolate 'crystals' (aka chips), Cocoa, Candy Cups, thermometer and Cacao beans,as well as your instructions. the items are natural, Fair Trade ones. All that is needed is a glass bowl for microwaving, or a double boiler. I would recommend the microwave method, as it is much safer, and easier, for kids. This kid IS recommended for kids 8 and up.
Miss Grace was able to follow all the instructions by herself, I just oversaw the production, as chocolate can be finicky and seize up if overcooked, or not stirred enough. It was easy for her to put it all together, and the easy stick thermometer was quick to apply and read. She did add the optional vanilla, and we found that it was a good idea, as our Madagascar Vanilla really brought out the chocolate flavor.
As you can see you get a decent amount of chocolates (we got 22, but there were 24 containers) and she really liked cutting open the cacao beans and seeing how the beans look inside the shell, before being processed. While cooking the chocolates we discussed how the ancient civilizations used the cacao bean, and how their version of chocolate was different than what we know today. kids don;t really think about what is IN the candy they eat! These fun kits allow them to not only discover what is in them, but to see how the different compounds work together.
You can also buy more of the gum base, from the gum kit, and make even more gum, after the kit is finished. Or you can skip that kit, and just buy some of the great gum, that Glee Gum, is known for!
