Review:

This is actually the perfect book for sharing with your family, as the 50 illustrations go from basic nature drawings, to more evolved mosaics, as you can see from the collage above and below.

Things that make this book stand out from the pack are it's embossed cover, heavier pages, and the ability to lay FLAT. Why does that matter? Because when you want to pull a page out to say frame it, being able to have the book lay flat means you can cut the page at the binding and get a CLEAN, non-torn edge! Yeah! I found adorable lobster (aka crawfish), rooster, bunny and pig prints that I pulled out to color to frame and use in the kitchen! By being able to keep them square, I can frame them the same and have a uniform look on the wall! The book also has a ribbon book marker, to keep your place while coloring!

If you read the previous colored pencil review today, then you saw one of the sample pages and how I used watercolor pencils on it.The page stood up to a bit of water, but by the time I had finished, there was some bleed through to the back, and the edges were curling. So if you are thinking of using watercolor, keep that in mind.

However, the pages are quite suitable for marker use, I colored this pair of seahorses with the typical washable markers you can get at any box store (as the kid ruined my good marker set (grrrr).

As you can see, that is a LOT of marker on one page! But the page didn't curl at all, and there was zero bleed through! Yeah!

I love how the designs in this book range from simple coloring to more evolved mosaics (like the seahorses) to allow you to change your coloring medium, and to really be creative and experiment with your use of color. It also allows you to share the pages with the entire family, as everyone will find something they want to color in this book, be it insects, butterflies, dolphins, birds or a calm seascape! It's a great book to add to your coloring collection, and perfect for gift giving as well!
