Heirloom Audio Productions

Some kids love history texts (ooo-hand raised!!!), but others need history to come alive for them, and our friends over at Heirloom Audio know this, and they have an AMAZING audio series that can do JUST that!

St. Bartholomew's Eve

We recently got to check out their latest entry into their catalog, St. Bartholomew's Eve, which is adapted from the book, St. Bartholomew's Eve, by G.A.Henty. Heirloom Audio is bringing all of the GA Henty novels to a new generation, via this new format of Christian audio dramas! By using incredible casts, Henty's stories now come ALIVE for kids- they hear proper accents, words and are transported back in time. By bringing back audio dramas, heirloom Audio reminds us of how words can create pictures for us, if we we let our imagination loose!

st bartholomew's eve cd set

Unlike prior adventures from Heirloom Audio, this is a 2-cd package, giving you 2 HOURS of amazing history (you can also get an instant download version)! This latest adventures tells the tale of Hugenot's in France, and their battles to keep their religion free from persecution, and it features an AMAZING cast, who voice the dramatic tale!

Brian Blessed is the PERFECT narrator for this tale- kids know his voice as a narrator, and he has the proper depth for telling a story, but putting the right amount of emotion from the narrator to keep the listener enrapt. It was interesting to let Miss Grace listen to the first CD and then tell her how different characters were actually voiced by the same person- she had NO idea!

We were all VERY caught up in this story of a cousin who leaves England to visit his Aunt and join them in their fight against the Catholics who sought to persecute them, as they would not adhere to all their religious edicts. Maybe because the story touched on the reforms of Martin Luther, who Miss Grace is studying in confirmation class, or because 12-20 year olds were so much involved in leading the righteous fight, she was MUCH more interested in this tale and was actually upset when we got to dance class as she couldn't keep listening to the story! LOL, but she was able to listen to the rest on the way home and she was equally clued to it!

As we will be starting our world history back up with the era that this CD deals with, I think it gave her a much better understanding of life in both England and France, and how intertwined the countries and families were. I think it will help her understand the different persecutions in that time period, and for future ones, to see the link back to this time period. This is an adventure that you can easily see in your mind's eye, as the audio tale unfolds and it's on the top of ous list for making history come alive!

But don't just take our word for it, check out what my fellow reviewers think about it too, by clicking the picture below!
