I found out about Mike Dowling's great flip books on Larry's Cakeblast's blog. I didn't win a copy, but found out Mike was looking for more reviewers this past month on Product Review Place and sent him off an email and waala, I can now confirm what all the talk is about- we LOVE this book! it's not often when your child gets totally enchanted with a book and asks to read it TO YOU! This book is definitely a keeper for our family!

This interactive, colorfully illustrated mix-and-match board book (9x12 size for easier use) for children ages 2 to 6. provides hours of educational fun. The book's sturdy pages are cut into three columns, spirally bound. Each column is made up of flaps that can be flipped up to reveal animals and funny rhymes about them. Columns 1 and 2 are meant to be flipped at random, while column 3 is the summary column. When the child fins the page that has all the animals from columns 1 and 2 on it, the number on the third column will equal the numbers on columns 1 and 2. So it's not just story telling, it's teaching of basic math skills!

My daughter enjoyed telling me (and her bear and horsie) that stories in the book- she only let me 'read' her one page and show her how to use the book for about 1 minute. Then she took it from me and it was all about HER reading to us! (no, she can;t read yet, but she could figure out a story form the pictures and knows her numbers!)

've never seen my daughter take so quickly to a book! She loved that she could control the story and change it as she wanted! The illustrations (by Mike's wife Sarah, an acclaimed artist) were bright and cute and totally suited to preschoolers' sensibilities!

She loved the flipping part and was quite willing to add the animals up- the book made math lessons FUN and easy for her!
