Book Review/ Giveaway/CLOSED: The Givenchy Code by Julie Kenner

Remember I told you back a few months ago that I had bought a bunch of clearance books off Barnes and Noble at their after Christmas sake? Well, obviously I've had alot of books come in for review, so I've only gotten to a couple of them (which is ok, I LIKE having a backstock ready to read!). But I managed to slide this one in right before the onslaught of books came!

 When I read the synopsis I wasn't sure how the book would be, as it was listed under chick-lit, but the tag lines read like a good suspense story! But I was very pleasantly surprised! The book was very enjoyable and I would gladly read another book by Ms. Kenner any day!

Synopsis: When fashion plate and former math major Melanie Prescott receives a coded note from a mysterious stranger on the same day she gets a pair of to-die-for Givenchy pumps (hello!) from her ex-boyfriend, the most excitement she's expecting from the day is a little ex drama and some shopping. She has no idea she's about to be plunged into a race for her life.

Before he died, brilliant online game maker Archibald Grimaldi developed the popular role playing game, PSW (Play, Survive, Win). The participant would answer questions about themselves, and if approved would be assigned as a Target, Protector, or Assassin. The Target would run around the cyber city seeking clues and safeguarded by the Protector while the Assassin, tried to kill the Target before the opponent solved the puzzle. Fun when it's online, but Grimaldi placed in motion a real world version of his hit Internet game to start after his death.

Former counter-terrorist marine Major Matthew Stryker  ignored the assignment sent to him when the game began, until he learns that someone murdered the subject he was to protect He is then sent anther Target for him keep safe- Melanie Prescott, who had played into the upper levels on line PSW. She rejects the role of real life Target, as a hoax, until Matthew risks his life to keep her safe, leaving behind a corpse as they flee for their lives from a mentally unbalanced Assassin. This action thriller never slows down once Matthew realizes that the PSW game is played for real and he and Melanie have to keep solving clues sent to them, or they will die. Each clue leads them to another clue as they race to the end of the game, mere steps ahead of the Assassin on their heels. In between Melanie and Stryker seduce each other, leanding a romantic (chick lit?) vibe to the story!

Kenner gets the book off to a quick start, sorta like "here's the cannoli, oh wait, WHACK!" But it is an enjoyable rush! The book is the premier book in Downtown Press' Naughty Girls series, though self-proclaimed "math geek" and Givenchy heroine Melanie isn't exactly a naughty girl, as more as being a math geek, makes her DIFFERENT! The way she and Stryker solve the clues and riddles will leave your mind reeling! This isn't a take it to the beach book, unless you're gonna stayed GLUED to the book, as you have to keep up with the story! The dialogue is great and you get a wonderful tour of the New York while the characters run from place to place!

This is one of those books that you'll adore if you like fast paced mystery and suspense!
