**THIS GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED **
My family has long been involved with hospitals and ER work and we have seen firsthand how bad a staph infection, or MRSA, can become if not looked at properly in the beginning! I am vigilant with our daughter- if she's got a bo bo, it's getting treated for a week easy, with some sort of cleaner and antiseptic!
So when I was offered the chance to review StaphASeptic, a first aid antiseptic and pain relieving gel in one, I was very interested in trying it. Anything I can add to the first aid kit to keep my family from having to go to the ER/doctor's office (where you have a greater chance of getting staph or MRSA to begin with!), is worth it to me!
Don't know much about staph or MRSA? Here's some quick info so you know what they are:
1. Staph Infection: real name/Staphylococcus aureus, are bacteria commonly carried on the skin or in the nose of healthy people. Approximately 30%-50% of the population is colonized (when bacteria are present, but not causing an infection) in the nose with staph bacteria. Sometimes, staph can cause a skin infection. Staph infections used to just occur among persons in hospitals and healthcare facilities, but now they are rapidly spreading into the general population, and are easily spread from person to person.
2. MRSA: Some staph bacteria have mutated and cannot be killed with commonly used antibiotics. MRSA is a type of staph that is resistant to antibiotics including methicillin, and other more common antibiotics such as penicillin and amoxicillin (which alot of people are allergic too, causing other problems as well). Millions of people are colonized with MRSA in the U.S. and infections are appearing at epidemic rates.Even dogs and cats can get MRSA and carry the bacteria to people! MRSA infections are commonly mistaken as spider bites. look at the StaphASeptic websight for pictures, if you;re not sure (warning-can be ugly on an empty stomach!)
How do you prevent these?
It was a good thing we had it, as the following morning I pulled a hot pan out of the overn, turned off the oven and kept on cooking and then 5 minutes later wasn't thinking and went to grab the hot pan with my bare hand. OOPS. I pulled back quickly, but my hand was definitely lightly burned. I ran and put it under cold water, remembered the StaphASeptic and grabbed it. The gel instantly cooled the burn and provided pain relief. By 2 hours later my hand looked good and by the next day the burn was already healing! Yippee!
We apparently had clutzy day that day, as daughter was out with Papa shopping and wasn't looking where she was going and ran smack into a bag holder at the store with her nose. By the time they got home, it looked a fright! Once it was cleaned it wasn't so bad, but I reached for the StaphASeptic and we reapplied it after her bath. As she's over 2, we were able to apply it 3-4 times a day. I have to say it has healed quickly AND looks like it will be scar free! She had another bo bo a couple of months ago and we treated it with a different antiseptic and we've been having to use Mederma to help reduce the small scar. I was amazed that by applying the StephASeptic to it as well, it has appeared to have faded even more! WOW!
I really like StaphASeptic because it is antibiotic free, provides pain relief and really keeps your wounds clean and helps them to heal quickly-helping to keep bacteria at bay! With MRSA increasing 10 fold in kids today, we all really need to keep some StaphASeptic handy!

How do you prevent these?
- treat and cover wounds immediately upon their occurence! They should be cleaned and treated with some sort of antiseptic to keep foreign bacteria out and from forming! Your kids are right- band aids ARE a good thing to keep wounds clean and free from foreign bacteria!
- don't share personal items like towels -something you really need to watch for with kids! Germs can live on towels for 24 HOURS!
- shower after physical activity, especially any where you may have come into contact with bacteria on another person- like football, basketball, etc. Send your kids with wet wipes to wipe down after PE, if they aren't allowed to shower (ie younger kids)
- properly clean sports gear and equipment after use-remember that 24 HOUR rule!
- keep hands clean-this is why doctors and nurses are always washing their hands!
- if your wound starts to appear to look like a pimple/boil/ingrown hair and has pus or is swollen, see your doctor immediately!
