*** THIS GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED ****
If you checked out my static page for Book Resources for this blog, then you've noticed that I've recently added Tylendale Publishing to our list of wonderful resources! They are the PR firm for New Life Translation and offered me a great Hands On Bible NLT for Kids to review! So in honor of darling daughter's FIRST day at Vacation Bible School, we have a review AND giveaway of this excellent bible!
Synopsis: Jesus taught with hands-on lessons and illustrations. The Hands-On Bible uses the same experience-based learning to communicate God’s Word in an active, understandable way. This new edition features updated tip-ins, a more portable size for kids, an attractive cover, and online parenting helps. With hundreds of fun, memorable activities (A “Do-It” activity in EVERY feature!) and the full New Living Translation text, the Hands-On Bible is packed with activities and experiences that invite kids to crawl inside the Scriptures and “do” God’s Word!
You can even preview the first chapter online at NLT!
About NLT: The translators of the New Living Translation set out to render the message of the original texts of Scripture into clear, contemporary English. On the one hand, they translated as simply and literally as possible when that approach yielded an accurate, clear, and natural English text. Thus preserving essential literary and rhetorical devices, ancient metaphors, and word choices, that give structure to the text, and provide echoes of meaning from one passage to the next.
On the other hand, the NLT translators rendered the message more dynamically when the literal rendering was hard to understand, was misleading, or yielded archaic or foreign wording. They clarified difficult metaphors and terms to aid in the reader's understanding. The translators first struggled with the meaning of the words and phrases in the ancient context; then they rendered the message into clear, natural English. Their goal was to be both faithful to the ancient texts and eminently readable. The result is a translation that is both exegetically accurate and idiomatically powerful. Some say it is stronger the the KJV, as the translators were able to make use of sources, such as the papyrus scrolls discovered in the last century, after KJV was made.
More than 90 Bible scholars, along with a group of accomplished English stylists, workedon the NLT to make it as accurate as possible!
Review: if you teach Bible school to kids, or are a pastor, you are going to WANT this bible! It has such great learning tips included to make kids understand terms used better. An example: Abraham’s trip from Ur to Canaan was probably around 900 miles. If Abraham walked the whole way, he took around 9.5 million steps to make the journey! Next time you walk to school or to a store, count how many steps you take. How long do you think it took Abraham to get to Canaan? or Abraham deserved the nicer land, and he could have just taken it.Instead, he chose to give it to his nephew. We can all make choices like that. Here’s a way! • Find a treat. • Find a friend. • Cut the treat into two pieces, one a little bigger than the other. • Take the smaller piece for yourself and give the bigger piece to your friend. Don’t tell your friend that you chose the smaller piece—just keep it between YOU AND GOD. or If God had asked Noah to fill the ark with popcorn, he would have had to pop about 6 million bags. GOOD THING NOAH DIDN’T HAVE A
MICROWAVE! Pop up a bag of popcorn to celebrate what God did to save the world.
See- easy to make it more understandable in kids terms! I also liked the timelines that are included in the beginning of the sections- it helps older kids see what else was going on at the same time as the chapters they are reading. This bible would also be a great gift for all the kids in your life. It would be a great family bible, due to all the family activities included, that allow you to explore the meanings behind the written words.
And now you can win your own copy!

ReplyDeleteThe bible would be for my daughter and son. I volunteered to prepare all the craft projects at our church's VBS this year. My favorite project was UV coloring changing bead crosses. The kids loved them.
