MUSTARD MONDAY: Product Review: Dean's Pretzel Dips- Cheese and Honey Mustard

Remember yesterday I mentioned Dean's Dip review was coming? Well HERE it is!

Let me refresh your memory first- Dean's Dips are the dips in the green and white containers, ready made, in the dairy section (usually by the sour cream) in your local grocery store. Flavors include French Onion, Guacamole, Ranch, veggie, Dill, Green Onion, Horseradish and Bacon, and lite versions of the flavors as well. They are prefect for parties on the go, last minute party pickups, tailgating and picnicing!

Well NOW they have come out with two more to add to their impressive line- Honey Mustard and Cheese Dips for PRETZELS. Yup- the lower calorie contingent gets some popular dips!

I had a problem finding the new dips in my Local Louisiana stores and ended up over in Mississippi on Saturday, where I found them no problem, and ON SALE! I think they just haven't gotten into all the stores yet! But don;t worry, once everybody tries them, they're gonna be begging the stores to carry them!

Saturday night was out for trial, so we opted for a family lunch after church to try them out. We went with your basics that you would have for BBQing, tailgating, picnicing, etc- Hot Dogs and chips! (For those interested the orange bowl in the Rachel Ray small casserole dish I won eons ago off another blog's giveaway contest and those are bun length hot dogs to give you an idea of dimensions).

I grabbed tortilla chips besides the pretzels, as I know hubby would rather tortillas. As you can see they chip n dip tray was rather festive with the Dean's Cheese Dip on it with the chips! We left the honey mustard in it's container, as everybody wasn't too sure how they would like it.

The overall consensus was WOW- these are ready made? These dips taste like you made them yourself!

If I had heated the cheese dip and added a little Rotel or Salsa (see Dean's recipe), you would've thought it was my normal cheese dip! It was THAT great! No globbing from too much Velveeta, and just the right amount of spice to liven it up! AND we also found that it made the perfect cheese dip for putting on the hot dogs. YUMMY! Hubby started thinking about baked potatoes and chili fritos as well. With only 90 calories per 2 tbsp serving, and only 1g of sugar per serving, it is also diet friendly! This dip is going on the regular shopping list for sure to keep on hand, it has just SO many uses! This one was the overall favorite by everybody!

If you click on the pix above you will see that the honey mustard looks different from that which you get in the squeeze bottles or at fast food places. That's because it is the perfect combination on honey and Bavarian style mustard! It is sweet AND tangy at the same time. It is PERFECT for pretzels, and we all decided we needed to try it as a sauce to grill on chicken ans as a sauce over some German style brauts! Seriously, we will be buying this on a normal basis and keeping in the fridge as a dip for meats, pretzels, and grilling! It is a more mature tasting dip, so the kiddos might not like it. Ours did, but she likes deviled eggs and we use Bavarian style mustard, so she's used to it. AND with only 50 calories per 2 tbsp serving, you won't feel guilty letting the kiddos have it as a dipping sauce!

Now I know some of you are thinking back to yesterday's post and thinking- hey what about that Twister game???? Wouldn't being a human pretzel perfect for a pretzel dip review?

Here ya go- the older folks (ahem) begged off (they just wanted to laugh we know better!) so it left me and hubby and kiddo. Hubby called referee (yeah, he's smart), leaving me and the 3 yr old....who has never played twister before....

The blur of motion was kiddo trying to get her right foot past mine and onto a green dot. The head made contact with the yellow dot and kaboom, down she went. Giggling and grinning and ready for round three! It was the prefect game for an afternoon of family fun! Thanks to Mary over at You Cast, we had an old-fashioned afternoon!

I really can't recommend these dips enough! AND if you catch them on sale, they are beyond reasonable (nay I say cheap?), making them perfect for all of us watching our dollars these days! So go out and try some today AND stay tuned because Dean's Dip is coming back for Cheesy Friday with a big surprise!!!!
