Product Review and Giveaway: Make Your Own Candy Kit, Gummies by Glee

Did Santa not bring you what you really wanted for Christmas?

This week I'm hosting a few great giveaways on items that Santa SHOULD have brought you, or your family members!

Today I have a great idea- Make Your Own Candy Kit! Perfect if you didn't get to make the candy you wanted to for the holidays, or received the one you wanted!


Available in Make Your Own Chocolate, Make Your Own Chewing Gum, and Make Your Own Gummies, these activity kits are all-natural, educational, and eco-friendly. With pre-packaged ingredients and easy-to-follow instructions, everyone aged 8 and up gets a real kick out of making candy from scratch. Focusing on the history behind and the origin of these candies, each kit is designed to captivate your interest, connect you to the global community, and create something yummy to eat in the process!

We were sent the Make Your Own Gummies Kit for review- as you can see it came fully packed! Included in the kit are: 

• colored, flavored sugar
• powdered seaweed
• sour mix
• making starch
• whole dried seaweed

I know you're asking- seaweed? Yes, seaweed! You see seaweed naturally contains a substance, that makes liquids like water and milk get thicker, or even become solid! Two of those gels, agar and carrageenan are in the kit. If you look at your toothpaste, cottage cheese, deoderent, salad dressing and even sandwich meat, you might find these ingredients listed as well! Surprised? We were! Now most gummies are made from gelatin, which is made from boiled animal bones. Yup- YUCK. Now wouldn't you eat seawood?

The steps were very simple, to make the gummies- First you soak the seaweed to regenerate it, Then you cook it on stovetop or in microwave to release the carrageenan! Pretty cool science experiment for the kids!
Next is making your molds. the kit comes with molding starch so you can make a mold out of anything in your house! Unfortunately kiddo was not having any of that- we had bought some of these adorable candy heart molds the day before and she wanted to use them. So we used the starch to make sure the gummies popped out with no problem! Once you mix all your ingredients, it takes only MOMENTS to pour the molds, then only 10 minutes in the fridge to set!

The last step was to remove the gummies from the molds and then place in a bag with the sour packet and toss! 3 year olds LOVE this step! As you can see, kiddo had NO problem eating her gummies! They have a great strawberry taste and are very good!


From start to finish you can be done in less than 20 minutes! Pretty cool when you think about it! We would definitely buy this kit again!
