Book Review and Giveaway: An Anchor for the Soul by Ray Pritchard

An Anchor for the Soul is written with doubters, seekers, and skeptics in mind. In a clear, straightforward presentation, he answers questions such as: What is God like? How can I know Him? Who is Jesus and what did He do? What does it mean to be a Christian? Through stories and illustrations, Pastor Pritchard very personally, yet gently, challenges his readers with the Good News of Jesus Christ.

About the Author: Dr. Ray Pritchard is the president of Keep Believing Ministries. He has ministered extensively overseas and is a frequent conference speaker and guest on Christian radio and television talk shows. He is the author of 27 books, including Credo, The Healing Power of Forgiveness, An Anchor for the Soul and Why Did This Happen to Me? Ray and Marlene, his wife of 35 years, have three sons-Josh, Mark and Nick. His hobbies include biking, surfing the Internet, and anything related to the Civil War.

Review: Pritchard starts the book by asking if he game you 30 seconds and 20 words, could you describe God. What if you had 30 years and 200,000 words? The point being that you may not be able to describe God, but the important thing is to KNOW him. Pritchard takes a common sense approach to the bible and how it applies to us, and how it is a vessel for us to know God personally.

In each chapter Pritchard takes and are of the bible and expounds on it- using clever modern analogies (my favorite being "Adam drove the bus over the cliff"), he relates the bible to our everyday life and then gives you a truth to remeber (ie.The only people who think they are good enough to know heaven are the ones you don;t know how bad they are"). he then presents questions for you to "Go Deeper". The questions are those that you might be given at bible study class, some may be bible sections to read, others ask for YOUR feelings about God and the chapter topic (ie are you angry with God, why?), to get you thinking and questioning. At the end he then gives you a 7-day plan for Spiritual Growth.

This is a very good little book (it is almost pocket size), that is perfect to carry with you to read a chapter at a time, to give you time to think about what is being taught/discussed. Pritchard's writing is very easy and modern, and he is not "fire and brimstone", but caring and presents his ideas well so that everyone can understand them. This is a good little book for anyone new to the Christian faith, needing a refresher, or questioning their faith. I highly recommend it!
