One of the initial book reviews I did on this blog was Death of a Valentine by MC Beaton, so I was thrilled when I was contacted about reviewing her latest Hamish Macbeth msytery!

Synopsis:In the south of Scotland, residents get their chimneys vacuum-cleaned. But in the isolated villages in the very north of Scotland, the villagers rely on the services of the itinerant sweep, Pete Ray, and his old-fashioned brushes. Pete is always able to find work in the Scottish highlands, until one day when Police Constable Hamish Macbeth notices blood dripping onto the floor of a villager’s fireplace, and a dead body stuffed inside the chimney. The entire town of Lochdubh is certain Pete is the culprit, but Hamish doesn’t believe that the affable chimney sweep is capable of committing murder


About the Author: M C Beaton is the psuedynomyn of Marion Chesney. Born in Scotland, she has worked as a buyer of fiction for a Glasgow bookshop, theatre critic, newspaper reporter and editor. She has written numerous successful historical romance novels under her own name, including the Travelling Matchmaker and Daughters of Mannerling series. Using the pseudonym M. C. Beaton, she has also written many popular mystery novels, most notably the Agatha Raisin and Hamish Macbeth mystery series. She has also written under the pseudonyms Sarah Chester, Helen Crampton, Ann Fairfax, Marion Gibbons, Jennie Tremaine and Charlotte Ward. Chesney now lives in the Cotswolds


Review: I LOVE this series! Beaton brings back all the familiar characters from the village of Lochdubh, and introduces new characters for the story. I am always amazed at how many sub-stories she has going on with the main plot! They always connect back together in a pretty bow, but they keep the reader guessing along the way! This is an enjoyable, quick read, that will leave you wanting to read the rest of the series, if you haven't read any of them yet! Pick up a copy and immerse yourself in the outer Northern edges of Scotland today!
