Book Review: God Gave Us the World by Lisa Tawn Bergren, Illustrated by Laura J. Bryant

God Gave Us the World
Since the arrival of our daughter, I have come to ADORE the God Gave Us series! The stories are wonderful, the moral and messages what we want our daughter to learn, and the illustrations are gorgeous and have captivated our daughter from day one! So I was thrilled to be able to take part in this Mama Buzz/ Waterbrook Multnomah Publishing Group book tour today!

Synopsis: Little Cub’s trip to a special museum exhibit, “Bears Around the World,” sparks a flurry of questions from the young polar bear who is just beginning to learn about life beyond her North Pole home.

As Mama Bear shares with her about the different types of places that God has put the various types of bears, with their different kinds of fur and eating habits, Little Cub begins to wonder: Why didn’t God make us all the same?

With Mama’s loving guidance, Little Cub is taught to see the vastness of God’s wonderful creation, his abilities as an amazing, inventive Creator, his desire for us to care for our world, and especially the important lesson that… “Every bear has a special place in God’s great, big world.”

Review: As always, Kiddo LOVED this book! We have tried to teach her diversity and equality, and have taken care to exposure her to other cultures since she was an infant. Handy Manny and Kai-Lan are 2 of her favorite cartoon characters, and coupled with Nina from Sprout, it's great to hear her picking up three languages (Spanish, Chinese and ASL), even if it's only a word here or there. So I was thrilled that the topic was covered in this series of books, in a way that showed it's ok to be different, cause God made us all that way!

It was funny to hear her equate boys and girls to the pages: "Some of us are quiet, others LOUD! Some of us like to move fast, and others take their time. I think it's fun that God made us all bears but all special too."  Her comment was basically "like the boys in class are so noisy and can't sit still". Pretty perspective as far as I am concerned! This week in school they are talking about God's love for everyone, including each of them, so it was a great tie in with reading the book ahead of time, as she could relate her class back to the story in the book!

This is a wonderful book and one that every parent should get for their family!
