Recipe Weekend: An Oldie, but a Goodie!

As you know we've got a sick kiddo in the house, so she's not into eating or cooking this weekend, but we've got a church Confirmation this weekend, which means huge potluck with the Bishop afterwards, so some cooking MUST be done!

Mom made up a huge dish of her traditional Jambalya- I'll be featuring it in a post next weekend, don't worry!- and I made the Jello Strawberry Easy Pie and Dream Whip Chocolate Dream Pie, both using some wonderful Wholly Wholesome pie crusts we got in for review. I'm going to give you a full review of both piecrusts later in the week, as frankly I am pretty beat and typing this up late Saturday night, not knowing if I'll get a chance to type up any posts on Sunday!

chocolate dream pie

If you've never made the Dream Whip Chocolate Pie, you are missing out on the easiest, chocolatiest, most sinfulest pie this side of the Wonka Factory! AND if you're like us, you forget about how simple it is, until you make it again, and wonder why you don't make it MORE often!

chocolate dream pie ingredients

So here's the ingredients:
2 env. Dream Whip Whipped Topping Mix
2-3/4 cups  cold milk, divided
1 tsp. vanilla
2 pkg.  (3.9 oz. each) JELL-O Chocolate Instant Pudding (if you use the new Devils Food or Chocolate Fudge, it's even MORE heavenly!)
1 baked pastry shell (9 inch), cooled
(OR be brave and put it in an Oreo or Chocolate Graham crust and don't give a hoot about the calories....)
And the EASY directions:
1. Beat whipped topping mix, 1 cup milk and vanilla in large bowl with mixer on high speed 6 min. or until soft peaks form. 2. Add remaining milk and dry pudding mixes. Beat on low speed until well blended. Beat on high speed 2 min., stopping occasionally to scrape bottom and side of bowl. Spoon into shell.
3. Refrigerate 4 hours.
4. To serve, top with a dollop of Cool Whip, topped with some chocolate shavings (you just added Cool Whip, why not add some extra calories, right???LOL). Get a large glass of milk (you're gonna need it), ENJOY

Nowhere's the BEST part about this SIMPLE recipe. You can substitute ANY Jello pudding flavor for the chocolate! Yup, you can make lemon, banana cream (add some real banana slices in there for extra yum),  or even pistachio (chop some pistachios and use as a border!).  Experiment and you'll see why we LOVE this recipe !
