Sometimes you come across a series and you're not sure if you will like it, but something compels you to pick the book, and by page 20 you're hooked and wondering why you thought you wouldn't like it. When I read the synopsis for his book it seemed interesting, in a weird way, and I kept going back to it, and finally said ok, we'll pick it for review!

I was pleasantly surprised at HOW much I liked the book and want to read the first 3 books! I really didn't think a mystery about a 'bug man' could be so interesting- WRONG!
Synopsis: Tying the knot may be the toughest thing Nick Polchak has ever tried to do.
Nick Polchak is comfortable with bugs. Their world is orderly. He knows where he stands and exactly how to interpret the signs they give him. But a fiancée and an upcoming wedding? Not so much.
That's why—a mere four days before the nuptials—Nick finds himself driving to Philadelphia for the monthly meeting of the Vidocq society. Being among a group of forensic professionals consulting on cold cases will surely allow him to feel useful and normal.
But while there he discovers that a close friend has been murdered . . . and in classic Nick style, begins to follow the trail of evidence rather than returning to his fiancée. Fearing that his one-track mind won't lead him home by Saturday, Alena and three of her dogs go to track him down.
When she finally finds him, nothing is as Alena expected . . . because the twists in this case will surprise even the most dedicated Bug Man fans.
You can read an excerpt of the first chapter on Down's website.
Review: I really thought there would be more entomology in the book, but it was reasonable and I really learned a few things (ok, so they may only come in handy during Jeopardy, but hey learning is stretching the brain muscle, right?) about bugs and their behavior. The book is extremely fast paced and the characters compelling and interesting. the plot really keeps you hooked and will surprise you at the end (do NOT read the end first- it will take all the fun out of the story!). My only wish is that I had read the earlier books, as I felt like there were a few 'inside' comments that weren't fleshed out enough to help me think I knew about the previous incidents of the characters lives well enough(course that is how things are in real life), so it's a very minor quibble- the book is still enjoyable!
The book is universal- men and women will like it the same! In fact if you need some Summer reading books for your male teenager, this might be a good series- as they can learn about bugs-aka Science projects!
