Book Review and Giveaway: A Wish and a Prayer by Beth Bence Reinke, Illus by Ginger Nielson

** this giveaway is closed ***

Today we have the 2nd of the 2 books from Beth Bence Reinke! This is a book that we shared with Kiddo's classmates at the end of the school year, as it helps teach the power of PRAYER!

A Wish and a Prayer cover

Synopsis: (for ages 4-8) When Jason's parakeet flies out the window and is lost, he and his friends try wishing on traditional objects to bring the bird home. Then one night during a thunderstorm, Jaso
n discovers something better than wishing.

Review: This was another winner! Kiddo loves parakeets, but with 4 cats in the household, there is no way we can have one. So she was instantly drawn to the book! Again, the pictures are vibrant and eye catching. The story is very sweet and I loved how the author included a variety of children.

A WISH AND A PRAYER SAMPLE

The story includes making wishes different ways, on inanimate objects. Kiddo lives to throw pennies in fountains and make wishes, so she was very fascinated with that part of the story. In the end it was very sweet to have her agree that there is only one way to make sure a wish come true. Which then led to a prolonged conversation of what God can and can't do! Very odd for a before bed conversation, but with 4 yr olds, you have to roll with it sometimes! I would highly recommend this book for Sunday School or Vacation Bible Schools, and to add it to your Summer reading list for your children, to bring

  3. Your description of reading the book to your daughter, her interest in pennies & fountains & wishes and having a conversation about what God can and can't do made my day. It's been my prayer that this book would help parents and kids talk about praying and faith. Thanks so much for reviewing the book and for sharing these details. ";o)

Obviously, I don't need to be entered in the contest - tee hee!

  5. Your review of this book is a nice glimpse into the details of the story. Children tend to be naturally curious about God and this story gives them a way to relate to a real God that is there for them always! The illustration is interesting and well done! Congrats to Beth and Ginger on this one.
