Product Review: Walmart 8x5 Inflatable Kids Pool

Photobucket

I showed you some pix last week, but I wanted to share a full review of the great inflatable pool that Walmart has for kids!

pool 1

The pool sells for ONLY $20 and was one of the best Summer purchases yet!

The pool is super easy to set up. With the 2 air chambers it inflates in sections and seems to inflate much better than any other inflatable pools we have had for Kiddo. We placed ours on a tarp to reduce the mud factor in the pool.

The 8x5 length really allows kiddo to stretch out and practice her pre-swimming! And as you can see, there is PLENTY of room for multiple kids, OR multiple adults!

pool 2

The pool holds 105 gallons of water, so if you pay your water bill by the gallon, that is something to think about BEFORE you buy it! Also, as the pool holds so much water, you WILL need to put chlorine in it, and treat it as you would a larger pool. This is something that alot of people forget about, and that the pool companies ignore. We found out the hard way, after having to change the water twice on one week! Mega water bill!

aqua chem
What I found online that was the EASIEST solution, was Aqua Chem's Sanitizer for Small Pools. It is quick-dissolving granular sanitizer made specifically for wading, kiddie and splasher pools between 200 to 1,000 gallons. It kills bacteria and controls algae in your pool. I spoke with a rep from Aqua Chem and they advised me it was perfectly suitable for the 105 gallon pool as well, just to adjust the dose accordingly. You also use their Shock Plus, which adds the chlorine to the pool, once a week, to keep the water clear. You will need to test the chlorine level, but the kids can get in 15 minutes after you add it! (we generally wait an hour). As far as dosage goes, you will have to use the formulas on the bottles to determine what fits YOUR pool. We're using 3/4 tbsp of the chlorine and 3/4th of a 1/3 cp of the sanitizer (sorry, that was how we figured the measurement!). I found them at my local Lowe's- Walmart didn't carry them.

We also found a kid's butterfly catching net for $2 that is working REALLY well as a skimmer! We couldn't find a small one, so we went with it as a 'better than nothing", fix, but a keeping it til it breaks, then I'll order a small skimmer!

The only problem we had was finding a pool cover (don't want the tree leaves falling in the pool non-stop, and to keep wandering animals out of it) to fit. We improvised again with a 8x10 tarp and some bungee cords. So far so good.

So if you're looking for a pool that is in between the hard plastic kiddie pools, can fit more than 1 kid, and that you don't have to be in the pool with the kids with, this is definitely a great buy!
