Book Review: Real by Shelley Malcolm, with photos by Terilee Dawn Ouimette

Sometimes you get a book for review, that just makes you go WOW.
This is one of those books!
Welcome to my stop on the Real blog tour!

Synopsis: “REAL” is a collection of 60 inspirational stories by Shelley Malcolm, with photos by Terilee Dawn Ouimette. The stories are deeply revealing, while the photos are anonymous, focusing only on each subject’s hands. Subjects range from adolescent to elderly, from former gangster to humble homeless, international refugee to hero-housewife, from pro athlete to Hollywood celebrity.

And now info about the project!
Shelley's Inspiration for the project came from a dream of similar images, that revealed the beauty in imperfections... The hand is more anonymous than a face or even eyes which show identity and emotion. The hand is made beautiful by the life behind it, and it is impossible to enhance or fake.

Did the pictures move you as much as they moved me? I really had to stop after I read each page, and reflect on the hands and what they said, that the words didn't. This is a VERY moving book, and you will find yourself flipping back and forth looking at the pictures, and re-reading the info. I recognized some of the bios, and was surprised with some of the info! The stories remind us of just HOW much of us is seen in our hands- be it the callouses from hard work, or the intriquing jewelry we wear- our hands speak volumes about us. This is a gorgeous coffee table book, and one that the recipient will love you for!

Proceeds from the book will benefit the Alzheimer’s Foundation and other charities.Making it a 2 for 1- by buying it, you also contribute to a worthwhile cause! You can buy the book on the author's website: http://marthamartha.net/shop/shopbook.html You can also
purchase  notecards, of assorted images from the book!

About the Photographer: "I have a deep passion for life and it is my goal to live it to the fullest. That may sound kind of cliche but it is so true. I love adventures, and people, and photography is an avenue for me to experience both in a fun artist way. Photography is an outpour of what I see and how I view life. It allows me to capture those sweet moments in life in a way that when I look back at the images I can remember how it felt to experience that moment. That is why I love my job (as a wedding/portrait photographer), I get to capture pure moments for people that they will always get to take with them."
