Christmas Books for Kids: Pony Play Games and Puzzles by Helene Hovaner and Patrick Merrill

Up today, we have another puzzle book to keep the kids occupied on holiday trips, or time off from school. Here is another from the same authors, aimed more at girls, as it has ponies!

Pony Games and Puzzles cover
Synopsis: Saddle up for lots of fun! Walk, trot, canter, and gallop your way through a variety of mazes, crosswords, quizzes, jokes, picture puzzles, and word searches--all related to the world of playful ponies!

Jackie the Jack Russell terrier and Barney the barn owl are in-the-know guides for a puzzle-packed tour around the horse farm. Their silly, horsey humor keeps children laughing while they solve 100 fun brainteasers. The five chapters progress in difficulty — from Walk to Gallop — encouraging children to stretch their abilities as they learn more about ponies.

The authors also have similar puzzle books: Barnyard Games and Puzzles and Great Outdoors Puzzles and Games (which we reviewed earlier this week)!

Be sure to check out Hovanec's website for more puzzles for kids!
Kiddo and Pony Play Games and Puzzles

Review: Naturally Kiddo really loves this book, as she is in a horse phase already!  It was the perfect book to keep her occupied while at the doctor's office- you know how that is- hurry up, then wait, hurry then w-a-i-t (FOREVER, says Kiddo). She was really into the mazes in the book, and the find the things that are different. We then practiced writing letters on simple solicrosses and spelling words. I was actually VERY impressed at how well she stayed interested! This is definitely a keeper, as there were quite a few puzzles beyond her years right now, but I can see how putting them together later would be great for car trips! If your child is into horses and solving puzzles/games, they'll love this book!
