Christmas is one of my favorite holidays!
Christmas brings families together whether they live close by or far away. Our family gets together to play games, eat dinner, enjoy coffee and dessert and spend Christmas together. Of course there is gift giving and receiving involved!
The sad thing is that we get caught up in the hustle and bustle of Christmas and sometimes we forget what Christmas is really about. We are making our lists and checking them twice. When the checkout line is too long, the store too crowded or the lady in front of you picked up the very last of the early bird special; you lose it, acting in a way you shouldn’t or say things that are less than complimentary. We plan and cook so we can spend time with family. When the plans do not go quite right or your dish burns it is easy to get upset. Maybe the kids did not get all that they wanted and they complain, acting a little ungrateful. We all do it at some point or another.
This year I really want my family to focus on the real reason for Christmas, Jesus. I want my children to reflect on the truth that God sent His Son, Jesus, to the world, to live among us. The story is a miraculous one. Who could have guessed that God loved us so much He would send His own Son, who would ultimately die for us. What an amazing gift of love!
So instead of getting upset that we do not get the exact pair of shoes, the TV or whatever we really wanted, we are running late, the checkout line is too long or things just are not going your way...STOP.
Remember what is most important, Christmas is about Jesus!

It is indeed so easy to get distracted by the lights and sparkle of of ornaments and images of Rudulph, but you're so right.
ReplyDeleteChristmas is about Jesus and what was given for us. Thanks for the post, Robin.
