Four Holidays, Four Traditions 
Join celebrity chef Lidia Bastianich, author of the new Lidia’s Italy in America cookbook, as she travels across America in a celebration of culture through food in this new WGBH co-produced special that explores the American immigrant experience through holiday traditions. the adventure begins in new York City, where Lidia prepares a traditional Italian Christmas eve La Vigilia— feast of the seven fishes—with actor Stanley Tucci. 


Next stop is San Antonio, to honor the holiday Mexican-style with four generations of the Cortez family, where Christmas is about making traditional Mexican American tamales and decadent desserts. In San Francisco, Lidia makes Chinese dumplings with the Fong-Torres family to observe Chinese new Year. Back in the Big Apple, she commemorates a Passover Seder with the owners of Russ & daughters and food author Ruth Reichl. On the menu: smoked salmon, charoset, beef brisket and horseradish, and of course, chicken soup with matzo balls. Lidia Celebrates America/Holiday Tables & Traditions 


Live From Lincoln Center/George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker and Live From Lincoln Center/Bernstein and Gershwin Holiday Celebrations

Tune in two Live from Lincoln Center holiday specials: George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker from the new York City Ballet and the New York Philharmonic’s New Year’s Eve Gala celebrating the music of American 20th-century composers Leonard Bernstein and George Gershwin. Set to Tchaikovsky’s glorious score, The Nutcracker features new York City Ballet’s entire roster of more than 150 dancers and muscians, as well as two alternating casts of 50 children from the school of American Ballet, the new York City Ballet’s official school. 


Bernstein and Gershwin celebrates the start of the new Year with a glamorous evening featuring Bernstein’s Overture to Candide and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue conducted by music director Alan Gilbert and featuring star pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet.
