Book Review and Giveaway: Unhallowed Ground by Mel Starr

I reviewed the previous book in this series, A Trail of Ink
and was quite happy to review this new book!

Unhallowed Ground cover

Synopsis: The fourth adventure of Hugh de Singleton, medieval surgeon and detective, finds Hugh investigating what seems to be a suicide of one of the town's scoundrels and his longtime enemy. Though at first reluctant to pursue a mystery that no one else sees, Hugh and and his new wife Kate set out from the town of Bampton only to follow the clues back in order to discover which of their friends committed the murder.

Review: This is a really interesting series, as the author keeps the vocabulary, slang, and historical time period for the book. You may find yourself referring to the much needed glossary of terms in the front of the book frequently at the beginning of the book, but by halfway in, you;re good and totally immersed in ye olde England! The story picks up only months after the previous book, so for the reader who has read the previous book, it's like slipping right back into the story. BUT you do not need to have the previous book, as the author gives you enough background info to catch you up. This was an enjoyable mystery, one that keeps you guessing til the end of the book, and I finished it in 2 sittings! If you like historical mysteries, you'll love this one!

  3. You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to be really something that I think I would never understand. It seems too complicated and very broad for me. I am looking forward for your next post, I’ll try to get the hang of it!
