bleed for me cover

Synopsis:  She's standing at the front door. Covered in blood. Is she the victim of a crime? Or the perpetrator?

A teenage girl--Sienna, a troubled friend of his daughter--comes to Joe O'Loughlin's door one night. She is terrorized, incoherent-and covered in blood.

The police find Sienna's father, a celebrated former cop, murdered in the home he shared with Sienna. Tests confirm that it's his blood on Sienna. She says she remembers nothing.

Joe O'Loughlin is a psychologist with troubles of his own. His marriage is coming to an end and his daughter will barely speak to him. He tries to help Sienna, hoping that if he succeeds it will win back his daughter's affection. But Sienna is unreachable, unable to mourn her father's death or to explain it.

Investigators take aim at Sienna. O'Loughlin senses something different is happening, something subterranean and terrifying to Sienna. It may be something in her mind. Or it may be something real. Someone real. Someone capable of the most grim and gruesome murder, and willing to kill again if anyone gets too close.

Review: This is the 4th book in the Joseph O'Loughlin series by author Michael Robotham.

The author has written an amazing book! The author brings to light many horrible present day social problems. The main character is a clinical psychologist, who terminated his practice, and became a professor at a local university. He is now going through a separation from his wife and suffers from “Mr. Parkinson”.  When Joe, the psychologist thought things couldn’t get any worse, his oldest daughter’s best friend is accused of killing her own father.

The author also takes on the issues of child abuse, and self induced torture by “cutting”. Many other issues arise in this novel such as pedophilia, racial hate crimes and murder. The author does an amazing job of taking readers along for a roller coaster ride, and making them witnesses to everything that occurs in the book. Anyone reading this novel will fell like they are actually a part of this story, during every sentence. He takes his characters and makes them human, showing their flaws.

This novel will chill you to the bone, and also warm your heart. Sometimes you think, “Oh no not that” and hope that as the storyline continues all things will work out as they should. You will hope that the good people, no matter how flawed they are, will get the justice they deserve, and the bad people (and there are many), will also get the justice that they deserve. As a reader you will not want to put this book down. It is stimulating, invigorating and well written. If I were to grade this novel on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest, I would give it a 12! It is an excellent read from an excellent author.
