Welcome to Winter, aka Cold and Flu Season!

And as we all know, sore throats for you, and your family, are just around the corner, if they aren't already! With the weather and the stress of the season, our bodies eventually 'revolt' and sound the alarm, usually with a sore throat to start!

But I have a great "new" solution for you, that is really a pretty "old" one!

How old?

Try 1870 old! Back then J. Herman Pine hung out a confectionery shingle in Philadelphia and, along with his brother, sold their first batch of what they called 'Pine Brothers Glycerine Tablets.' They were made by combining the soothing natural qualities of glycerin with the healing properties of gum acacia, with some added natural flavoring and a sweetener. They called them, Pine Brothers Softish Throat Drops.

In 1930 Pine Brothers was sold to the Life Savers Company and continued to flourish. Known for its 'soft drop consistency' primarily in the eastern and northern states, they reached their popularity in the 1970's. The company was sold and re-sold and acquired a number of times. Cost cutting changes were made to the original recipes, packaging became stale and marketing non-existent; Pine Brothers began to be made overseas. Sales declined.(you can boo and hiss here!)

But a savior was on the horizon! Pine Brothers was acquired by the creator, and former owner of Airborne, Victoria Knight-McDowell, for her new company 3 Sisters Home Products. They spent a lot of time locating the original Pine Brothers recipes, redesigning the packaging, and creating an exciting new look for the classic product. Pine Brothers is once again being made in America (three cheers for 3 Sisters!), and was launched nationally last Fall.

Now with that interesting history- you know this is a product you need to try right?

But here's the BEST thing- they WORK. Period. Hands down, the BEST of any sore throat drop out there!

I was sent both the Original Honey and Wild Cherry flavors to review and literally the next day, I had a sore throat and got to try them out! I was very pleasantly shocked when I took ONE in the morning and did NOT need another until early evening. I normally am the type that needs to take them as often as possible, so I was thrilled. They do take some getting used to as they are closer to a gummie, than a traditional sore throat drop. But once you get them in your mouth (and get over the strangeness), you realize just how quickly they are working! WOO HOO!

I love that there are 2 options- a purse size round 'puck' with 26 unwrapped softies, perfect for a purse or backpack, and a 32 oz. bag with 32 drops, perfect for home and office use. The softies have only 5 calories, and 1 g of sugar per each drop, and are Gluten FREE! How about that for being able to stick with your diet? And because they are natural, they are safe for kids over the age of 3!

They are currently available in original Honey and cherry flavor available everywhere, with Black Licorice available in select markets right now.Original Lemon-Citrus coming next year.
pine brothers bagsI really liked the Wild Chery, my preferred drop flavor, but the Original Honey is quite pleasant- even Kiddo gave it a thumbs up. And speaking of, Kiddo prefers these drops to the normal kind- she thinks of them more like candy, and claims they aren't 'yucky tasting'. You take the positive reviews when you can, right? LOL

You can purchase the Pine Brother Softies at your local CVS, Harris-Tweeter, and Safeway stores, as well as online at different retailers like Walgreens.com, or from the Pine Bros website.  (www.PineBrothers.com).

We love the softies and will be keeping them in our medicine cabinet! And lucky you, my BTHM readers, Pine Brothers wants to give one lucky BTHM reader an assortment of their softies too!

Ready to win, and be ready for winter?
