Ah Mother's Day. Father's Day. The 2 holidays where we absolutely have NO idea what to get our parents, that they don't already have. Sigh....
How about something that is not only sweet, but great tasting, and a LONG held family tradition?
Let me introduce you to G.H. Cretors of Chicgao!
GH Cretors has been making popcorn for over 135 years. And it is still family run company- Claire Cretors (popcorn president) and her mom Phyllis, are carrying on the corn popping tradition of great-great-great Grandpa Cretors (who invented the popcorn machine in 1885!). They still make their popcorn in copper kettles, one batch at a time!
They make all-natural and gourmet popped corn. That is in one word: YUMMY!
With a lineup of Chicago Mix, caramel, cheddar and kettle corn, G.H. Cretors keeps to tradition by making its popped corn the good old fashioned way (by hand in copper kettles!) and adds a new healthy twist, making its snacks completely free of GMO’s, artificial colors or flavors (and Kosher too!). You SO SO SO gotta love them for the non GMOS alone!
We were sent a package of every flavor (Caramel Corn, Kettle Corn, Cheese Corn, Chicago mix and Carnael Nut Crunch) to try out. First take a look at the popcorn:
Seriously, that is an unvarnished picture above- there is THAT much lovely, buttery, thick caramel on EVERY piece of popcorn. The caramel corn literally MELTS in your mouth, after the initial crunch down of the huge piece of popcorn (apparently Great Grandpa knew a thing or two about popping some serious sized popcorn!). The caramel is made with sweet cream butter, brown sugar, and cane sugar. All good for you, and just like Grandma used to make! (You might find yourself dumping the bag out to get ALL the crumbles via fingertip, like Miss Grace did!)
I forgot to take a pix of the Kettle Corn- it is just as large as the ones shown. It really does taste like the Kettle Corn made the old fashioned way at tractor fairs- and it should as it has only four natural ingredients: popcorn, sunflower oil, cane sugar, and sea salt. Period. Talk about being good for you!
And it isn't uber-sweet like some packaged ones can be.

The cheese corn is made with REAL cheddar (hello!) and it can be odd at first, as it is a stronger taste than the packaged type from the box stores. Once you get used to it, you realize it is almost a hint of nacho flavor to it. Miss Grace really liked it! For the Chicago Mix, the cheese and caramel corns are combined (as above, bottom of the pix). Honestly I had never heard of this, much lest tried it. But after the first :"um???" you realize it works, and works pretty well!
I am amazed that the Caramel Nut Crunch contains almonds AND cashews! WOW. And the nuts? Large and equally covered in their wonderful caramel!
I seriously can NOT pick a favorite, but by family vote, we decoded the Caramel Corn
was 'da bomb' and number one!
