Synopsis:

Meet Sadie.

When she's not mixing it up on the basketball court, she's mixing the perfect batter with her friends in the cupcake club. Sadie's definitely no stranger to competition, but the oven mitts are off when the club is chosen to appear on Battle of the Bakers, the ultimate cupcake competition on TV.

But the real battle happens off camera when the club's baking business starts losing money.
With the clock ticking and the cameras rolling, will the club and their cupcakes rise to the occasion?

Review:  This is the 3rd book in the Cupcake series, joining Recipe for Trouble,  and Peace Love and Cupcakes.  This is an adorable book, one that elementary age readers (aimed at kids 9 and up) will love, for it's connections to reality cooking shows, especially if they are fans of them! It is a great book for Summer reading, as the authors offer some great ideas about hosting your own Cupcake Bake Off with your friends and family. It would also be a great way to teach kids to bake, using the books as backdrop and inspiration- plus the story is pretty solid as well (friends and family are important). So they are fun for kids and parents alike! They also include cupcake recipes after the story, so you know it's a great book, right? LOL

And because we ARE a Southern blog, I had to share one of Carrie's wonderful cupcake recipes with you for our weekly recipe post too, as it has cayenne in it, and you know that spells CAJUN! LOL

Chocolate Chili Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting

Ingredients For cupcakes:
(Makes 12 cupcakes)
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup cocoa powder
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 egg
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup warm water

Direections:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a standard muffin pan with paper liners.

2. Mix together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and cayenne pepper, until combined.

3. Add milk, oil, eggs, vanilla and warm water. Mix until smooth and combines.

4. Divide batter between cups, having them 3/4 way full.

5. Bake for about 15 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean. Make frosting while baking-recipe below.

6. After cupcakes have cooled, frost with cream cheese frosting and lightly dust with cocoa powder on top.

Ingredients For Frosting:
(Makes 2 cups of frosting)
1 cup cream cheese, room temperature
4 tablespoons of unsalted butter, room temperature
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
4 cups confectioners’ sugar

Directions:
1. Beat the Cream cheese and butter together until smooth.

2. Add in the confectioners’ sugar  and vanilla, beat until sugar is moistened, scraping down the sides of the bowl, once or twice.

3. Increase speed and beat until light and fluffy, about 4 minutes.

4. Frost cupcakes, as directed above.

(Note- in my e-version, there was added salt to the frosting directions, which is a typo, you don't add any to traditional cream cheese frosting)

ENJOY!
