With Earth Day about to be upon us, I was thrilled to open a surprise package from Kilt This and find a GORGEOUS new kilt for Miss Grace, in her favorite color: RED!

Why the Earth Day connection?

Because the girls at Kilt This, Serena and Cris use recycled parts in their kilts! Yup, they pull straps, webs, rings, etc from purses and backpacks, from their local Goodwill store! And their fabric selection is limited only by what is available at the local fabric store! Check out their cool video, which can tell you more about them than I can:

Let me repeat the last part of the video- ALL kilts are made sans patterns, free-hand, so no 2 kilts are exactly alike (unless you ask for that!). As someone who sews, I find this absolutely amazing! I found out about Serena and Cris last year and fell in love with a picture of a red kilt that Cris was wearing and wanted to get one for Miss Grace! Red and black with chains- the dormant punk rock part of me gave a scream of joy, and when I found a matching shirt on the clearance rack at a local store, I new a winning combination was being made!

I love that the kilts are traditional, yet modern looking, yet are totally utilitarian with all the pockets and hooks! You literally can wear these kilts ANYWHERE! AND because they are made to your measurements, they fit YOU and not some department store mannequin! The curvy girls give Serena and Cris a huge HIGH FIVE for this! And just look at the DIFFERENT types of kilts you can get!

And now you can even change the front piece! Just HOW cool is the Union Jack, the Scottish flag and the tartan front? Even the camo look rocks! You know you're thinking Celtic fest, Ren Faire and a whole lot more, aren't you?

How well does Miss Grace like her Kilt?

As you can see the shirt goes perfectly with her kilt. She added the pirate hat because she said she felt like exploring and finding treasure when she wears it! I think it has something to do with all the pockets! LOL. She adores having large pockets for treasures, lizards, and the occasional rock....LOL

The things we LOVE about this kilt:

That would be the great length (always a worry with those long legs!), the SIX adjustable waist snaps, allowing for 3-4 size differences- it can grow with her! That's the 3 Kisses of Approval there from Mom! Talk about a budget savey kids kilt!LARGE pockets can hold even a small camera with ease, as you can see, OR you can hook your case onto one of the clips on the waist clips! AND there are more pockets in the back! And more webbing! Oh yeah, she can see ALL the possibilities of filling her kilt up with treasure indeed!

As you can see the pleats are well sewn to stay DOWN even on a very active kid! AND they even sent along a matching strip of red fabric, so we could make her a matching bow. Yup, they understand Tom Girls!

I love that you can make your Modern Snap Kilt totally yours with choice of hardware color, fabric, front apron and pocket colors, and then you can add kilt chains! WOO HOO! I am so loving the chain look, and even Miss Grace asked if she was going to get those too (shhh, maybe for Celtic Fest this year!) Course she also wants a matching sporran (cause it's NEAT!) and leather bracers for when she's shooting her bow! Sigh...she loves their shop!

AND the kilts are MACHINE washable (lay to dry). How much more serviceable can they be?

We are in love with her kilt, and it will be time to get one for ME next!

Serena and Cris have outdone themselves with the design and purposeful use of these kilts. Way to go!
Head on over and check them out and I know you'll find a kilt that screams out to you to BUY ME! too! You find better customer service- all their customers LOVE their kilts- just check out their reviews!
